Sydney United and Bankstown City Lions do battle for the Zarko Odzakov Cup
The Cup will be played over two legs on an annual basis in honour of former Socceroo and Sydney United great and 50th Anniversary All Star, Zarko Odzakov.
Both teams are coming off victories into the first leg of this Cup ? not that either side needs a lift prior to any games played between them as history has shown when the pair lock horns, there are always nail biting spectacles to say the least.
At this week?s press conference, Zarko Odzakov stated that, ?Firstly, to be selected as a 50th Anniversary All Star was quite a shock and now to have the honour of my name on a Cup.
?This is wonderful.
?Sydney Croatia/Sydney United have produced and had many great players in the last 50 years ? Abonyi, Rozic, Patikas, Arnold, Rezo, Kupresak, Petkovic, Slater, Bosnich, Popovic, Kalac to name just a few but there are many, many more players and to have this honour for a Cup in my name is fantastic.
?I was lost for words when I was asked by Sydney United club Director Louie Apostolovski, to the point of being a little embarrassed. I will never forget my time at Sydney Croatia. It was the highlight of my football playing career?.
The kick off time for the 1st leg is 6:00pm on Sunday the 8th March 2009 at the Sydney United Sports Centre, 223-227 Edensor Road, Edensor Park. The 2nd leg will be played at Jensen Park on Sunday 31st May 2009 with kick off at 3:00pm.
