Seb Coe becomes Sydney 2009 World Masters Games Ambassador

Lord Coe, the two-time Olympic athletics champion who set a total of 12 world records, including one that stood for more than 16 years, said that the Games are open to everyone rather than just elite athletes with swags of gold medals.
“If you’ve ever dreamt of competing at a major international sport event then the Sydney 2009 World Masters Games is your chance to live out your sporting fantasy,” said Lord Coe, the only man to have won men’s 1,500 metres gold at back-to-back Olympics, achieving the feat with victories in Moscow and Los Angeles.
“You don’t need to be an Olympic champion to take part in the world’s largest multi-sport event this October. You need only meet your sport’s minimum age and feel fit, fun and forever young. Many thousands of everyday people will have extraordinary experiences at the Sydney 2009 World Masters Games. You can be one of them.”
Minister for Tourism and NSW Government spokesperson for the World Masters Games Jodi McKay said that Lord Coe’s endorsement of the Games coupled with his high profile will encourage people from around the globe to register for the event’s seventh edition.
“Lord Coe is one of the biggest names in world sport and someone who believes in the aims of the Masters movement, particularly the promotion of healthy lifestyles, friendship and understanding through sport,” Ms McKay said.
“We are extremely excited to have someone of Lord Coe’s ability and profile on board as an ambassador.”
Running 10-18 October, the Games will see 25,000 people from more than 100 countries compete in 28 sports across 72 venues, including many Olympic sites.
