Round four heats up in 2009 NSW Super League
The sides share an electric history, with three wins each and nine goals each from their eight Super League encounters since 2004. Macarthur will be hard to beat at Lynwood; that?s where their three wins have come from.
Central Coast Lightning welcome Granville Rage to Pluim Park on Saturday night (7.30pm). The Rage have a win, draw and loss to start the year, while Central Coast have the solitary draw to their name, so a win would be welcome relief for all sorts of reasons. Interestingly, four of their six league meetings have resulted in 2-1 scorelines, three going Granville?s way (and two of them last year). The Lightning have won twice but last beat the Rage 2-0 in 2007, at Pluim. They drew there 1-1 the year before.
St George Saints take on Mount Druitt Town Rangers in a top-five stoush at St George Stadium on Saturday night (7.30pm). Thanks to an amazing two-win start, Mount Druitt is riding in third place, a point ahead of St George. It gets better for the Rangers; from four league match-ups with the Saints, the western Sydney side has notched up an impressive three wins on the trot, twice knocking off St George 3-2 in 2008, following on from a 2-0 win in late-2007. St George won the first test 3-0.
Fraser Park will look to this Saturday?s clash with GHFA Spirit FC at Fraser Park as a means to get their season going (7.30pm). A new coach after two rounds, three losses and 15 goals conceded may look bad for the home side, but there were signs of improvement against Mount Druitt last week, where they led 2-0 early in the game. Spirit also showed great courage in their come-from-behind 3-1 win over Liverpool last week and will be primed for their first away fixture of the year.
The Northern Tigers have gone from the frying pan into the fire when they tackle co-leaders PCYC Parramatta Eagles at Mills Park on Sunday afternoon (3pm kick-off). After facing the might of Macarthur last week, going down 1-4, Northern have another tough ask at Parramatta this weekend. The Tigers are yet to beat the Eagles in four Super League attempts ? a 2-2 and 0-0 draw in 2007 followed up by 4-1 and 3-0 romps to Parramatta last year.
How the tides turn. FC Bossy Liverpool take on Rockdale City Suns at Ernie Smith Reserve on Sunday afternoon (3pm), but the momentum has shifted yet again between these two great rivals. When 2006 Super League champions Rockdale dominated, the Suns won two and drew two of four meetings with Liverpool. Last year, Bossy won both fixtures on their way to grand final victory. Mile Todorvski, who coached Liverpool in 2008, is now back at Rockdale ? it?s sure to be one heck of a game.
