Wollongong Community Football Club parts company with coach Tony Pace
After a bright start to the season, and some stirring performances early on, there has been a marked deterioration in ?the Community’s? performances and results in the last month.
The WCFC Board states that it has considered many factors and decided to change the existing coaching structure.
As of Wednesday, Tony Pace has been relieved of his duties as first team coach. Glenn Fontana, the club’s Director of Football will take temporary charge of the first team squad to allow the Board to properly consider its options in the coming weeks.
A Club press release goes on to say:
We wish to state that we have full confidence in the ability and talent of all our players. Their performances against Bankstown, Bonnyrigg and Sydney United are ample evidence that they do have what it takes to represent our club and our town in the TeleChoice Premier League.
Club Spokesperson Vic Cuoco said: ?The players now have an opportunity to show that they have the fighting spirit that the club needs. There is a transfer window that opens in a few weeks and options do exist for the club to make changes if they are needed. At this moment in time we hope that our current players rise to the challenge and firmly cement themselves in our future plans through hard work, grit and determination.?
The Board will be reviewing the procedures that lead to the fast tracking of Tony Pace into the role of coach. The Board is indebted to Tony for taking on such an onerous role with very limited resources at such a difficult time for the club, but feel that we may have advanced him too soon.
Tony had been offered an alternative coaching role within the club but has decided not to take on this role and the Board wishes him the best for his future football endeavours.
The Board hopes that by acting in a swift and decisive manner we are signalling our intent to make this club a strong and successful one that represents our town and our community 100%.
