Bill Turner Cup and Trophy Grand Final Review
Bossley Park take out Bill Turner Cup in thriller
Bossley Park High have won the 31st Bill Turner Cup at Edgeworth in a hard fought match against Queensland?s Cavendish Road State High.
An own goal off the boot of tall centre back Alex Hastings gave Bossley Park a 1-0 advantage at the 33-minute marker. But Cavendish Road were not out of the contest, go forward and defending in numbers.
The match was locked at nil-all at the break after what can only be described as an arm wrestle between two very good quality teams.
Bossley Park demonstrated from the opening whistle that their intention was to attack.
Two minutes had just passed when the first corner of the game was delivered into a crowded Cavendish Road penalty area.
The defence stood tall and the partisan Bossley crowd began to sing: BOSSLEY, BOSSLEY, BOSSELY.
The tempo increased then dropped off as both sides found their pace, no quarter given or asked, with tackles willing, the running fast and the ball skills abounding.
On 15-minutes Bossley?s Luke Clifford broke away down the left side and crossed into the Cavendish Road area, the ball fell for Damien Smith but the chance was denied.
Three minutes on Peter Makrillos watched on as his right foot strike was headed away at the far post by Cavendish Road?s Corey Santos.

Westfields Sports High claim Bill Turner Trophy
Illawarra Sports High School, playing in their first Bill Turner Trophy Grand Final, met a very talented Westfields Sports High School team in an exciting match that showcased the large amount of young, talented female footballers playing in NSW.
Westfield had the better of the early stages but were consistently denied any real scoring chances by the resolute Illawarra defenders. Vanisha Kumar was making many penetrating runs for Westfield but succumbed to an injury and had to be replaced midway through the first half. Illawarra started to get more into the game and Caitlin Foord had a golden chance to open the score in the 23rd minute but Westfield goalie, Georgina Rowntree, made a great save by diving at her feet just as she was about to shoot for goal.
With one minute to go before halftime, Westfield attacked and Illawarra succumbed to the heavy pressure and unluckily a defender put the ball into her own net for the opening goal
The second half turned out to be a very even affair with both teams playing attacking football. With one minute to go, Illawarra had a good opportunity to equalize with a free kick one metre outside the Wesfields penalty area but the ball went well over the crossbar.
Westfield hung on for a one nil victory and took out their second Bill Turner Trophy in succession
