Severino stunner has fans excited

When Daniel Severino’s stunning left-footed free kick found the back of the net last Saturday, it didn’t just give the Bonnyrigg fans something to cheer about – it gave them hope.

Championships aren’t won on the back of free-kicks and they certainly aren’t won in March, but what Severino has won is the respect of a club that is yearning for glory.
Expectations are high at Bonnyrigg Sports Club, but so are Severino’s goals for the year.

“A personal goal is to score close to 15-20 goals this season,” Severino said.

“But the long term goal is to win the championship and to make sure Bonnyrigg wins all three trophies this year.”

The former Bankstown City Lion’s player is one of several new faces at the club but feels right at home wearing the blue and red of the White Eagles.

“It’s been easy because everyone is on the same boat,” he said.

“No one is singling anyone out because we’re all new and we’re all helping each other.”

Like most players who joined the White Eagles during the off-season, the opportunity to play in front of the fanatical Bonnyrigg supporters was an enticing offer.

“The fans at Bonnyrigg are awesome and once we string a few wins together the atmosphere and the crowd will keep getting bigger and better,” Severino said.

But when asked the reason why he put pen to paper with the White Eagles, Severino had no hesitation.

“It’s the coaches,” he said.

“I was supposed to join Bomber [Brian Brown] and Cliffy [Cliff Pointer] a few years ago at Marconi but it didn’t happen.

“I needed a change this year and there was only one club I was going to come to and that’s here.”
