Marconi Stallions set to battle Sydney United for Capitol Hill Cup

????????????????????????????????????

More than just the usual three competition points are on the line for the two local combatants, with the match also acting as the first leg in the traditional Capitol Hill Estate Cup, which is now in its sixth year.
The Capitol Hill Estate Cup and the FNSW Premiership trophy hold prime positions in the Sydney United trophy cabinet, results of a great season enjoyed by United in 2009.
Both Clubs have won the Cup three times each however; Sydney United could well be the first team to have the honour to win the cup three consecutive times.
Lee Sterrey?s men will certainly be aiming to put a stop to this, the same way they halted United?s march to the 2009 Grand Final, with their one and only win over United.
Both teams head into this match in the top four (4) positions with the Stallions sharing equal 1st place (with the Blacktown City FC) having won four (4) matches and drawn one (1) match from five (5) starts. United is in fourth (4) position with two (2) wins, (2) draws and a loss from five (5) starts.
The Capitol Hill Estate Cup was formed as part of a tribute to the two Clubs? most famous contest, the 1988 National Soccer League (NSL) Grand Final.
In one of the most pulsating and edge-of-your-seat matches ever played in the NSL, the Stallions prevailed 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out, after the scores were locked together at 2-2.
Both teams scored goals in extra-time and had players sent off, during the marathon match played in front of packed crowd at Parramatta Stadium.
Marconi coach Lee Sterrey knows too well the significance of such a match having played for both Clubs in the former NSL. He is expecting a great contest and one that will be highly entertaining for the spectators.
The first leg of the Capitol Hill Estate Cup will be played at Marconi Stadium this Easter Saturday, 3rd April. The second leg will be played at Sydney United Sports Centre on Sunday 20th June.
