Arrive Alive Women?s Super League Round 5 Review

Both ANZAC Day matches were postponed after the pitches were deemed unplayable after overnight rain. The APIA Leichhardt Tigers v Blacktown Spartans match at Lambert Park and the Central Coast Lightning v Northern Tigers game at Pluim Park will now be played on a date to be fixed. With St George FC having the bye last weekend that left only four teams in action; all playing on Monday afternoon.
With matches being played on the holiday Monday I apologise but I have very little information regarding goal scorers or other details have been made available for this review.
Gladesville Ravens maintained their perfect start to the season with a hard fought win over Eastern UNSW Lions at Magdala Park.
The Lions were the first to score but Gladesville had battled back by half time to go to oranges at 1-1 after a Mel Fornito equalizer. The Ravens had plenty of scoring opportunities but Eastern UNSW stayed in the match with a combination of good fortune and last ditch defence.
Unfortunately for the visitors, just as they looked likely to take home a share of the competition points, Gladesville?s Fatma (Fatty to her friends) Agar bobbed up to score the winner. Heartbreak for The Lions but joy for The Ravens!
The Eastern UNSW Lions continued their impressive start to their first season in the Arrive Alive Women?s Super League but, alas, they?re still chasing their first win. If they continue to play with the sort of enthusiasm they?ve shown thus far success won?t be too far away.
The win leaves The Ravens sitting atop the competition table for another week. Next Sunday presents their stiffest test of the season when they host Central Coast Lightning at Magdala Park. This is sure to be an exciting afternoon of football so if you are out in the North Ryde area next Sunday, get down to Magdala to watch two fine football teams in action.
GLADESVILLE RAVENS 2 (M.Fornito, F.Agar)
EASTERN UNSW LIONS 1 (no goal scorer supplied0
At Summerhayes Park Springwood United turned in a strong effort against Lady Hawks but went down narrowly 1-0 to the visitors.
This was a much improved effort from Springwood; a result that would give them plenty of hope for the matches ahead. Coach Sam Fornito will be working hard to get his girls off the bottom of the table in the coming weeks.
Lady Hawks will be happy to have another win under their belts. This keeps them in touch with the leading group and they seem a side that has a touch of improvement in them.
SPRINGWOOD UNITED FC 0
LADY HAWKS 1
Once again, I regret the dearth of information about the Arrive Alive Women?s Super League matches this week. I will be at the Gladesville Ravens v Central Coast Lightning blockbuster next weekend and look forward to giving you a detailed report on the game.
See you at the ground.
