Futsal School Regional Championsips visit Northern Beaches and Marrickville

The Northern Beaches was the next stop for the 2010 Schools Regional Futsal Championships. Local Schools showed up in numbers with some excellent Futsal being played over Three days. Competition proved to be very tough in all ages with some well known rival schools coming up against each other.
The first day of competition saw the 14, 16, and 19 year old girls take to the courts. Women?s Futsal is not shy in the Northern Beaches with some great talent coming out of many teams for a number of years now. Pymble Ladies showed some great class in both the 14?s and 16?s with both teams pushing themselves into the Grand Final. For the first time ever Cheltenham Girls HS entered teams into the competition and surprised everyone with their skill and well constructed Futsal. Mackellar Girls were looking to be the team to beat in the 19?s with some strong hard fought wins throughout the day they found themselves into the Final.

The Next day of Competition saw the 14, 16, and 19 year old Boys take to the courts.with over 30 teams participating on the day competition was going to be tough in all ages. St Spyridon College set the standard high in the 16?s with some well structured Futsal being played throughout the day but met their match when they came up against Narrabeen Sports HS in the Final, which proved to be a great contest. Northlakes HS were showing no signs of jet lag from there early morning trip from the Central Coast, fast and furious Futsal was being played in all games they played marking themselves as hot contenders to take the trophy as they marched their way into the final, competition was always going to be tough though with Balgowlah Boys snapping at their heels.

16 Boys – St Spyridon College 2 v Narrabeen Sports HS 1
19 Boys – Balgowlah Boys 5 v Northlakes HS 3
The Northern Beaches Region was coming to an end but we thought we would save the best to last with local Primary Schools battleling out against each other. Manly Vale PS showed some great form in the 12 Boys age group with some great skill and sportsmanship on display. After making the trip from Dural Pacific Hills PS were shining bright aswell with some experienced Futsal being played throughout the day. Seaforth PS proved to be too strong in the 10 Boys with both Seaforth teams making it though to the final.

After a successful week at the Northern Beaches the School Regional Championships went from one extreme to another when it stopped off at Marrickville. With over 80 teams participating over the week competition was always going to be of a high standard with teams hoping to progress through the group stages. Special mention goes to Claremont College for entering 16 teams in the Primary category, this is a tremendous contribution to Futsal as a sport and Football NSW would like to thank all the teachers and Parents who volunteered in helping Claremont College get through the day.
The first day of competition it was the 16 and 19 year old Girls who took to the courts in what shaped up to be a great day of Competition. Marist Sisters College showed there class in the 16 girls showing off some outstanding skills during the day. OLSH College Kensington were not to far behind though with some great team work getting them through some very difficult wins to push themselves into the Final. In the 19 Girls it was Donremy College and Burwood Girls who showed the rest of the field that they were the two teams to beat. Some very solid defence and also the ability to score goals was shown by Burwood Girls throughout the day.

One the second day of competition it was the 14 Boys and Girls turn to show off their talent. In the 14 Boys it was All Saints Gammar who introduced themselves to the rest of the competition that they were going to be the team to beat. All Saints Grammar were a very well coached side and played some very structured Futsal, scoring plenty of goals throughout the day and hardly conceding any. Not far behind All Saints was the very competitive Homebush Boys who seem to be just getting more talented every year they enter in all ages, with some hard fought wins during the round games they found themselves face to face with All Saints in the Final. In the 14 Girls Riverside Girls showed extreme class in some come back wins during the round games and progressing themselves into the final. Marist Sister were right at their heels as they got through the round games easily and had a courageous win in the Semi Final.

14 Boys – All Saints Grammar 4 v Homebush Boys 3
The third day of the tournament showed 39 Primary school teams hit the courts on what was one of the largest days we have had yet. The talented youngsters played some great Futsal and were very vocal cheering for their school teams throughout the day. In the 10 boys Santa Sabina College had some close encounters during the day but fought to the end to win the grand final against Newtown PS. The 10 girls were no let down with Santa Sabina coming out on top with some great style of Futsal on display beating Clovelly PS in the grand final. In the 12 Boys age group Claremont College and Newtown PS played each other in what was a close final with some talented players in both team. Claremont College won the gold in the dying minutes of the game. Last but definitely not least was the 12 girls. The energy on and off the court by these girls was impressive. Clovelly PS headed into the final being the favorites as they had not yet dropped a point but Claremont College weren?t far behind only dropping 1 point in the round games. Clovelly PS won what was another very close final but Claremont College should not be disappointed with their efforts.

after a long Three days it had reached the final day of the Marrickville Championships and it was the 16 and 19 year old boys who stole the spotlight. James Cook Boys HS very strong in both age groups especially the 19?s. Two teams from James Cook HS were playing hard and solid in all games they played especially when they came up against each other, both teams from James Cook Boys making it through to the final. In the 16?s Homebush Boys had some tough competition with James Cook Boys not letting them get away with the gold medal easy, both teams playing some fantastic Futsal throughout the day and showing some great sportsmanship at the same time.
