The three course dinner with live band is looking to feature former West Ham player Hayden Fox, who played some of his junior football at the Granville Association club. Fox has yet to confirm, but those at Winston Hills have their fingers crossed he can attend.
?Hayden was with Winston Hills when he was younger and his dad was on the committee in the past. We have spoken to him and are just waiting for his confirmation,? said club secretary Julie Sykes.
Winston Hills, which currently have 1,200 players registered, are hoping to attract over 350 attendees for the celebration to reunite old friends and provide for the children. Sykes? clear message summed it up best.
?The majority of Granville Association is grassroots and with Winston Hill having always been a family oriented club, we can expect that the more people that attend, the more the kids get out of it in the long run,? Julie said.
Originally known by the name Model Farms, Winston Hills FC?s long history started on a cow paddock back in 1970 with its clubhouse subject to a milking shed. With the original building consisting of just two main walls, an iron roof and half a wall at the front, the ?Bears? are proud of the progress they have made so far.
One man who has been there from the beginning is Bruce Goddard. The 47-year-old, who began playing for his beloved Bears from day one now enjoys his football for the over 45?s and couldn?t be more excited for his for his club?s 40 year milestone.
?The 40th anniversary should be a very fun night with a good feed and an opportunity to dress up,? said Goddard.
?Having been with the club since it began, it will be nice to see old friends that I grew up playing with.
?This club has always provided an enjoyable environment with a helpful committee. After 40 years, we are still going strong,? he added enthusiastically.
Winston Hills are trying to design a Powerpoint presentation for the night with photos from as far back as 1978 and ask that if anyone has any old photos from their time playing for the Bears, that they should contact the club as soon as possible.
For those interested in attending the 40th anniversary on June 12th, should contact Julie Sykes on 0418 634 287 to book their table.
The cost is a mere $95 which covers a three course meal, pre dinner drinks, entertainment and dancing until 11:30pm.
