5 Star Quake too good for Eagles

IMG_0556

The Quake girls started like a house on fire peppering the Eagles goal with 4 shots within the opening two minutes without reward. Claire Walsh started strongly and a bit of individual brilliance where she rolled her defender and got a shot off was a highlight early on.
Clear cut opportunities were few and far between for both sides in the opening 10 minutes even though the Quake girls had most of the possession.
Quake were rewarded for their constant pressure with a brilliant left footed strike which went ?pigeon? by Zoeie Redman which left inform keeper Melissa Khoury with no chance.
Quake went further ahead 3 minutes later when an Amy Sarandopolous pass was intercepted by Redman who finished clinically from the edge of the ?D? to make it Eagles 0 Redman 2.
Young Redman was having the game of her life and had an opportunity to get her hat trick three minutes before half time but this time Khoury denied her.
The Eagles were clearly missing the inform Renee Tomkins as their attack was not its usual crisp self but Sarandopolous had a half chance heading the ball wide while Bain had a shot stopped by Ash Brown.
In the 33rd minute Lauren Ralston intercepted a Stephanie Ascone pass and tucked the ball under the on coming Khoury to give the Quake side a 3-0 lead.
A minute later a Laura Donnelly chip / shot from inside her own half caught Khoury unawares to give Quake a now unassailable 4-0 lead with 6 minutes remaining on the clock.
The Eagles didn?t rest on their laurels though, Brooke Cowie had a chance to pull one back when she hit the post after some good lead up work by Lauren Vosota.
The Eagles did get their reward a few minutes later when Vosota won the ball mid court and played a 1-2 around Sarah Seamaan with Jodie Bain who then drew the keeper and laid the ball across  for Vosota to simply tap in.

But Quake weren?t ready to give the Eagles any sniff and two minutes later the game was all but over as a contest as Linda Dudek put the final nail in the Eagles coffin with her teams 5th and final goal of the evening smashing the ball into an empty net after a long ball by Walsh was miss-kicked by Khoury.
The Eagles definitely missed experienced trio in Tomkins, Perfillio and Bowering but the young classy Quake side were just too quick and too organised this time around.
Either way, both teams will be there abouts come season end. A repeat of last season final is something I wouldn?t bet against.
