Eastern Suburbs crowned 2011 Centenary Cup Champions
Hosted by the historic Balgownie Junior Football Club across four days, it was the talented Eastern Suburbs squad that claimed all the plaudits with a monumental victory.
Eastern Suburbs finished second in Group B after their initial group stage of fixtures before defeating Southern Branch in a nail-biting affair via the penalty shootout 3-2 after the game ended at 0-0.
Meanwhile Central Coast claimed the Centenary Plate after they defeated Bankstown 3-2 on penalties after the game finished scoreless.
The young Coast side defeated Southern Districts in the semis which then saw them take out the Plate, a trophy for the teams that finished third and fourth in the group stages.
Every team in the Grade 12 Metropolitan Representative entered this event, and were joined by representative teams from Southern Tablelands, and Northern Tasmania as well as the local Balgownie team who all did their clubs proud.
State coaches and selectors from the High Performance Unit were also on hand in running a critical eye over all players with a view to inclusion in scholarship programs and ultimately the state teams.
Football NSW wishes to congratulate all the teams that participated in this prestigious event which showcased some of the best talent this state has to offer.
