Round 3 Waratah Cup Update
A late goal by Kutaiba Elrich just saw Parramatta Eagles home when they defeated St George 3-2 at a rainswept St George Stadium.
The Eagles took an early lead, when Chris Camilleri scored from a direct free kick after only four minutes. Before St George had time to settle, the Eagles went 2-0 up when Fabio Iacovelli connected sweetly first time, from close in.
But St George worked themselves back into the game and dominated their higher ranked opponents for much of the remainder of the match. Reuben Lagos was everywhere in the middle, and it was no surprise when he scored right before halftime. St George searched for the equaliser after the break and it wasn?t that long in coming. Swift passing across the middle, Lagos again dominant, saw the ball worked out to George Lagoudakis who crossed for Peter Vassilis to draw St George level.
Parramatta rarely threatened but the introduction of Kutaiba Elrich with twenty minutes to go was to prove decisive. With just seven minutes left, Elrich received the ball close in, and turning tightly, did well to score what would prove to be the winner.
The other match between Manly United v Dandaloo FC was postponed due to poor weather will now be played on Wednesday 1st June.
The Round 4 draw for the Cup will be made on Thursday morning with more information on this to be released on our website shortly.
