Women?s Football on the rise in Ku-Ring-Gai!

Women?s football in general is recognised as the fastest growing sport amongst females in Australia and with the inception of the W-League a pathway for elite females has been established.
KDSA has undertaken a number of different initiatives to not only increase female participation but to ensure football remains a competitive, safe and enjoyable sport for all.
2011 KDSA Female Registrar and President of the St. Ives Football Club Penny Howell highlighted a number of the fresh initiatives introduced by KDSA relevant to female participation.
?One of the things we?ve done is increased the age of girl?s only Small Sided Football competitions.
?This becomes more attractive for girls who aren?t yet comfortable playing in mixed sides and on full fields.
?This really provides another option for a child who wants to have a go with their friends.
?Nevertheless we also have the option to cater for girls who enjoy mixed competition and full field football ? covering both aspects.?
Currently KDSA offer ?girls only? Small Sided Football competitions in the U8, U9 and U10 age category and has proposed an U11 ?girls only? competition in 2012.
For women, KDSA has successfully segmented their competitions to ensure those participating competitively and socially can each enjoy their participation.
?Regarding All Age and Over 35?s, we?ve ensured that there is diversity and competition for both the serious and social player? Howell added.
?We did this by creating smaller divisions throughout the older competitions to ensure everyone within the competition is on the same page.?
