Camden ‘keepers go pink’ for a cause

After the idea was brought up in the off-season, the Tigers? two first grade ?keepers and the Under 20s shot stopper have been fitted with a completely pink kit to raise money for the McGrath Foundation.
The initiative was devised by first grade number one Michael Rutherford.
?He came to me and said he wanted to raise money for breast cancer and he came up with the idea of wearing pink to do so,? Camden?s State League coordinator Scott Bertolissio said.
?He just thought it was a good idea, he wanted it to be a novelty because no one else wears pink so he thought why not raise money in the process.?
The Tigers will be asking for donations at each of their home games this season as well as donating one dollar for every person that walks through the gates on match day.
With fundraising already underway, Mr Bertolissio says the response from the club and community has been overwhelming.
?There are a lot of people at the club who have been touched by breast cancer,? he said.
?The feedback has been good and the club has supported it.
?Everyone is quite happy to hand over money when we walk around the ground because it is such a good cause and there are people who say ?you?re doing such a good job? because their family was touched by breast cancer.?
With the association side of Camden Tigers making the club one of the biggest in the Macarthur district, there are already plans in motion to grow the fundraising in coming years.
?We are thinking about making all of the goalkeepers in the club, from under 6?s to All Age, wear pink so the whole club gets involved and we can continue to raise money,? Mr Bertolissio added.
