Round 3 Waratah Cup Update (Thursday 17th May)

NSW Premier League side Bonnyrigg White Eagles smacked State League One outfit Balmain FC 6-0 at Bonnyrigg Sports Centre. The star of the show belonged to Harris Gaitatzis who scored four goals while Alex Canak and Nikola Zonjic scored the other two.
At Marconi Stadium, the Stallions knocked out 2011 Premiers and Champions Sydney Olympic with a last minute Keith Shevlin penalty.
Pablo Cardozo scored his first goal for St George, in their 3-1 win over Hills Brumbies. Cardozo’s chip over the keeper in the 62nd minute, after a neat pass from Juan Chavez, was the Saints’ third after Brendan Maclean had given St George a first half lead. St George went 2-0 up when Matt Sadler scored in the 56th before Cardozo’s goal made it 3-0. Jordan Caporale took advantage of a mix up in the Saints defence to nip in and score for Hills with twenty three minutes to go, but the scoreline remained unchanged from then on in.
Bankstown City Lions progressed to the next stage of the Cup defeating the final Association side left in the Hills Pumas at Jensen Park. The gallant Pumas fought well but came unstuck as they were defeated 4-2 by Bankstown with a double from Giosue Sama and single goals from Shannon Burgin and Rueben Lagos.
In the battle of the Illawarra Premier League clubs, leading IPL side Dapto Dandaloo defeated rivals Tarrawanna 4-1 at Memorial Park. Things were made a bit easier for Dandaloo as Tarrawanna defender John Kelso was given his marching orders in the first half which shifted the advantage to their opponents. Goals from former NSW Premier League Gold Medal winner Brad Boardman, ex-Socceroo Alvin Ceccoli, Noel Spencer and Chris Smith were enough to give Norm Boardman?s men passage to the final sixteen.
At John Crehan Park a Mark Picciolini goal was all that separated the match between Super League outfit Northern Tigers 1-0.
State League One outfit UNSW produced one of the shocks of the round defeating NSW Premier League side Blacktown Spartans 1-0 at Blacktown Football Park. Seb Bendall was the UNSW hero with a goal in the first half that sent the visitors into raptures. It was a solid defensive display by the University of NSW especially with what was a rock solid performance by central defender Tomi Vidovic and goalkeeper Jonathan Duggan.
Parramatta FC recorded its first official victory for 2012 with a 2-1 win over NSW Super League side Dulwich Hill at Melita Stadium. Goals by Brian Soane and Bruno Pivato were enough to have seen Lee Sterrey?s men advance to the next stage of the Waratah Cup.
While in other matches Fraser Park defeated Fairfield City Lions 2-0 and Bankstown Berries took out Illawarra Premier League side Picton Rangers with a 3-0 victory thanks to goals from Ben Delicata, Alex Becerra and Peter Crevani.
In Wednesday nights matches, State League Division One side Southern Bulls were defeated 6-2 in extra-time by Canberra FC – the match was 2-2 at full time. Super League outfit Spirit FC swept past State League One side Mt. Druitt Town Rangers 4-0. Sutherland Sharks defeated fellow NSW Premier League counterparts and 2011 Waratah Cup Champions Manly United 1-0 at Seymour Shaw thanks to a Todd Halloran goal and Blacktown City FC defeated Sydney United 58 FC 1-0 at Sydney United Sports Centre.
