The current Illawarra Premier League champions face Bankstown City FC in the Cup after victories over Hakoah, Lilli Pilli, Tarrawanna and Rockdale City Suns in the opening four rounds.
The club?s success highlights the true nature of the Waratah Cup, which sees Association team?s mix it with the four representative tiers in NSW.
Although there may be three levels between Dapto Dandaloo Fury and their opposition tomorrow night, coach Norm Boardman is quietly positive about his side?s chances.
?I?m very confident, the only dint in the confidence is that we have three of our first eleven out but the boys are confident they can do a good job,? Boardman said.
?We can?t get ahead of ourselves though, we need to focus on the game we are playing, not the ones coming up.
?When you start switching your focus and thinking about what?s happening next, you don?t give the game in front of you the correct attention.
?I think Bankstown City FC will bring out some good things in our team because some of our best football this year has been in the Waratah Cup.?
NSW Premier League sides have lifted the cup on most occasions over the last 20 years, but with veterans like Alvin Ceccoli, Noel Spencer, Sam Munro and Chris Jackson on the books, Dapto Dandaloo Fury have one of the best chances of a non-representative team in recent memory.
Managing the Cup in between a busy Illawarra Premier League season has been the biggest test thus far for Boardman?s men – their round four victory over Rockdale City Suns was the Fury?s third game in just five days.
Although there are no expectations to progress past the quarter final, Boardman believes his player?s have the ability to shake the underdog tag.
?These guys have got a unique character and the drive that they have gets them over the line against better quality teams.
?When you play those teams, quite often you step up to the mark.
?The (Illawarra) Premier League is pretty strong, the biggest difference between the other leagues and ours is that we only train twice a week.
?At the end of the day, some of the players here are as good as others in higher competitions but for some reason they can?t commit.?
Dapto Dandaloo Fury are defending their premiership in the best possible fashion, leading the Illawarra Premier League after ten rounds.
