Manly Daily: Thomas Manos scoops Lucas Neill Scholarship
The 16-year-old, who has been on the club’s books the past three winters, is regarded as one of the state’s best young goalkeepers.
Buoyed by his recent training sessions with Sydney FC, Western Sydney Wanderers and the Central Coast Mariners, Manos represented NSW aged 14.
Last year he was a member of the national under-16 squad who competed in the Asian Football Confederation Championship Qualifiers out of Thailand.
Manos will trial at a couple of English Premier League outfits in the new year and can’t wait to test himself abroad.
“It is a massive opportunity, one I am very thankful came my way,” he said.
“I was hopeful of getting the call-up.
“But I wasn’t sure because the competition is pretty fierce.
“To be in that fulltime environment will be fantastic, it will definitely benefit my game.”
Manly United head coach Craig Midgley is confident the shot-stopper can hold his own.
“Thomas has all the attributes to become a professional footballer,” he said.
“He has desire in spades and a great work ethic.
“I’ve no doubt he’ll come back an even better player.”
Manos was presented with his award by former Manchester United and Chelsea gloveman Mark Bosnich.
