Campbelltown Quake holds off Mascot Vipers
A resurgent Campbelltown Quake defeated a gallant Mascot Vipers outfit 3-2.
Daniel Martinez scored a hugely important double for Quake, with Mark Symington also on the scoresheet.
Pat Di Salvo and Anthony Tomelic scored for Vipers but unfortunately for them it wasn?t enough to gain even a share of the points.
Quake came out with intent, taking a 2-0 lead into the half time break.
They added a third just after the break but quick goals from Di Salvo and Tomelic put the pressure firmly back on Quake?s shoulders, but they managed to hold on for victory.
Quake manager Carlos Martinez was relieved to come away with all three points.
?The conditions were terrible, it was so hot, but we started really well, we played high intensity Futsal and really set the tempo,? he said.
?We were missing players again, but the senior players Mark Symington and Danny Martinez were fantastic.
?Mark played almost a full game, he was really sensational.
?We had to defend like crazy in the final ten minutes; we came very close to running out of petrol!
?Vipers probably didn?t play to their usual standard, but it was a really good win.
?We?re not far away, in terms of performance,? Martinez concluded.
Mascot Vipers? Zvi Ben David was bitterly disappointed with the outcome.
?We were flat,? he said.
?We only started playing in the last eight minutes.
?No excuses,? he said.
The match was played in searing heat and Ben David was sure it had an impact on the quality of the match.
?It must have affected them,? he said.
?Sometimes you lose games and you still enjoy them, but this wasn?t an entertaining game,? Ben David concluded.
Enfield Rovers hammer Inner West Magic

Phoenix narrowly beat Boomerangs
Phoenix Futsal Club continued their solid debut season in the Futsal Premier League, defeating Boomerangs FS 2-1.
Nathan Amore and Daniel Collins were the scorers for Chris Cowley?s side, whilst Daniel Fulton scored the solitary goal for Boomerangs.
Phoenix coach Chris Cowley was elated with the result.
?I was very impressed,? he said.
?It?s a good scalp to get.
?We?ve got a good run of home games so we?re going to try and capitalise on that,? he added.
Phoenix were the better side and created plenty of chances in what was one of their best performances of the season.
Cowley continued, ?Angelo (Konstantinou) kept them in the game.
?He made a number of one-on-one saves and they only scored with 20 seconds to go.
?I definitely think we deserved to win, on the balance of chances created,? he concluded.
