Councillor Brian Robson accepts role as CDSFA Patron
He is the first of Mayors within the CDSFA Boundaries to accept the invitation.
The City of Canterbury, administers a local government area of 33.4 square kms, covering 16 suburbs. It has a population of 143,111 people representing 18.1% of the total population residing in the Southern Sydney region. Just on 47% of the population were born overseas.
The area is serviced by the following community based football clubs in membership of the CDSFA; Australian National Sports, Belmore Eagles FC, Belmore United FC, Canterbury Junior FC, Earlwood Wanderers FC, Hurlstone Park Wanderers FC, Lakemba Sports Club and Roseland Raptors FC.
Since being elected Cr Robson has served as Deputy Mayor in 2003 – 2004 and 2007 – 2008. In November 2011 he became Mayor, and was elected Mayor at the Local Government Elections held on Saturday 8 September, 2012.
Within Council, Cr Robson has served as Chair of Council’s City Services Committee for a number of years and has been involved in many of Council’s Advisory Committees.
Outside of Council Cr Robson has been a member of the Board of the Roselands Bowling Club and he has been Council’s representative on the Board of the Bankstown Community College since 2000. He has held the position of President of the College for a number of years.
CDSFA Secretary, Joseph Kuchappan said ?Cr Robson has always been involved in his community and I know from conversations with him he considers that being a Councillor is a privilege and being the Mayor is an honour which allows him to continue his contribution to the community and well being of the people within the City of Canterbury?.
The CDSFA wishes to publicly acknowledge and thank Cr Robson agreeing to become part of the community football within this Association.
The CDSFA spans the seven major inner west local Councils (Ashfield, Burwood, Canada Bay, Canterbury, Leichhardt, Marrickville and Strathfield) and has over 13,500 registered players making it the largest sporting association closest to the Sydney CBD.
