State League One Round Six Preview

One solitary match on Saturday will kick start Round Six of the State League One competition this week, with the remaining five clashes spread over three timeslots on Sunday afternoon and evening.
Camden Tigers will travel to William Lawson Park for a 5-00pm kick off against Prospect United on Saturday afternoon, desperate for a change of fortunes to allow them to commence their climb away from the foot of the ladder. But Prospect will be smarting after a three goal loss to Dulwich Hill last week, and could be in no mood for sentiments as they hope to return to the winner’s circle in front of their fans.
Granville Rage came unstuck last week at home against Inter Lions, and will this week be keen to rectify the situation when they entertain Nepean FC, again at Garside Park.
Attacking midfielders, Nenos Bobo and Zac Watters, have been in great form of late for the Rage, with little to show in terms of points, and both will be a huge threat to the visiting side once again.
Nepean, on the other hand, have made it two wins on the bounce, and subsequently have climbed to fifth place on the ladder, with a game in hand on some sides. Coach Adam Malouf will be eager to keep up the momentum, and in Sebastian Camacho and Joshua Hunter, he has a couple of real aces in the attacking third – it’ll be up to Rage to minimize their impact by keeping the ball in the opposition half.
Both sides will be backing up for this Round 5 league clash after midweek Waratah Cup matches. Nepean will be taking on the might of Lee Sterrey’s Parramatta FC at 7-15pm at Melita Stadium on Wednesday, whilst the Rage make the long trek south to take on Illawarra side, Port Kembla, and Wetherall Park, Primbee, the match due to start at 7-30pm.
An intriguing clash awaits at Magdala Park on Sunday afternoon, when Western NSW Mariners come to town for the second time in five days to take on Gladesville Ryde Magic.
The opening day thumping at home to Dulwich Hill is a distant memory for the Mariners, and they have since recovered in their debut season to pick up seven points and climb into the top half of the ladder.
But the undisputed champions of 2012 have had to face the added obstacle this season of being the team everyone wants to beat, and opponents invariably lift when faced with the opportunity of a big scalp like Gladesville. The Magic have not won since the opening day, but the Mariners will write them off at their own peril.
Earlier in the week, the Western NSW Mariners will travel to Sydney on Wednesday night for Round 4 of the Waratah Cup, tackling the might of the NPL NSW Mens 1 league leaders, Bonnyrigg White Eagles, hoping to cause an almighty upset and continue their Cup run.
Northbridge FC have struggled to replicate last year’s good showing and haven’t been able to build any momentum thus far, with one win from five matches and sitting in tenth spot of a congested competition ladder. Their opponents on Sunday at Northbridge Oval are Dulwich Hill, who have definitely set the pace in 2013, leading the way on 10 points, and with a game in hand on some teams.
Dully have the equal best defensive record with just 4 goals conceded, but their real strength is in attack with 18 goals so far, at 4.5 goals per match. The home side will really have their work cut out in keeping the visitors at bay, especially the league’s top goalscorer, Carlos Villazon.
In the other two remaining matches, Hakoah Sydney City East will have their work cut out when they welcome the visit of the undefeated Balmain Tigers to Hensley Athletic Field for a 5-00pm kick off, whilst two teams at opposite ends of the ladder meet up at The Crest Athletic Centre for a late Sunday night, 7-00pm kick off, with second bottom Inter Lions hosting second placed Hawkesbury City.
