Women’s State League – Round 18 Preview

This weekend in the Womens State League there are plenty of close match-ups, with the most keenly anticipated of all being the top of the table clash between Western NSW and Sydney Olympic. 

Nepean FC v APIA Leichhardt Tigers. Cook Park, 3pm
The two cellar dwellers will go into this clash desperate for the three points after a less than impressive run this season. APIA have steadily improved over the past three weeks, and will go into this clash slight favourites.

Bankstown City Lions v St George Saints. Jensen Park, 3pm.

St George travel to Jensen Park this Sunday to face Bankstown City. The home side will be firm favourites for this clash, and after two tough games against Western NSW and Sydney Olympic, will be looking to get back to winning ways.

Parramatta Ladyhawks v UNSW Lions. Melita Stadium, 3pm.

The last time these two sides met, UNSW edged out Parramatta in a close match. With Ayse Adalis, Claire Stephan and Shani Lauf all in good form, the defending champions might be favourites, however with the Ladyhawks still undefeated at home this season, UNSW will have their work cut out for them.

Sydney Olympic v Western NSW Mariners. Peter Moore Fields, 3pm.

With only a few points separating these two sides at the top of the Womens State League, this one has to be the match of the round. The Mariners are much stronger at home then they are on the road, which is good for Sydney Olympic. However, with George Beltsos’ side riddled with injuries to key players, Olympic will have to dig deep to get a result this weekend.

Mt Druitt Town Rangers v Gladesville Ravens. Popondetta Park, 3pm.

The last time these two sides met, Gladesville were thumped 4-0 at their home ground. However, this week’s clash should be much closer, as Gladesville have improved throughout the season. If the Ravens can close down danger women Taryn Rockall and Brooke Conroy, look out for an upset.
