Unbeaten competition spearheads Boomerangs host Enfield Rovers at the AIS Training Halls on Saturday night in a match that pits leading scorers Michael Reeve (Boomerangs) and Giovanni Leuzzi (Enfield) against each other. The Territorians have ridden a wave of excitement as they head the league after four rounds on the back of 20 team goals and will feel confident of holding their advantage on home turf this weekend. A sluggish start has put Rovers on the backfoot early but they still only find themselves three points off second spot, so a good result on Canberran roads will help steer them back in the right direction.
Mascot Vipers welcome Campbelltown Quake to All Sorts Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday night as both sides look to kickstart their summer campaign. Mascot haven’t scored many this season (10 goals in three games) but they have also been stingy at the back (nine goals conceded) to remain competitive in all their outings. Campbelltown have given up 16 goals in four games to really feel the pinch in a lacklustre beginning, although to be fair they have suffered from three close defeats.
Walls will wobble when Inner West Magic meet Mountain Majik at Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday night. Both sides are in joint second place with Dural and the winners will stay in touch with Boomerangs in the race to the premiership flag. Inner West have struggled to net this year (eight goals in three games) but might find the going a little easier against a Mountain side that’s had 20 goals avalanche down on them in just four matches. On the flipside however, Magic will need to be on their guard against a Majik attack that’s also conjured up 15 strikes of their own.
It’s a David-versus-Goliath Match-up when Phoenix Futsal Club tackle defending champions Dural Warriors at Ryde Sports Centre on Saturday night, but the game isn’t beyond the premier league newies. Phoenix have been competitive in just their second top flight season and if they can find a few more scorers (six goals in three games) they’ll start turning close defeats into victories. Dural have bounced back from their first-round loss to Boomerangs to knock in 12 goals in two successive wins and build some momentum following their two-week hiatus.
