FNSW Futsal Premier League Round 9 Preview
Football NSW Futsal Premier League round nine features a cruncher between Inner West Magic and Dural Warriors at Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre, Mountain Majik tackle Enfield Rovers at Hawkesbury Indoor Stadium, Phoenix Futsal Club host Campbelltown Quake at Ryde Sports & Community Centre, while Boomerangs welcome Mascot Vipers to Canberra’s mpowerdome.
Inner West Magic meet Dural Warriors in a Futsal blockbuster at Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday. Dural arrested the competition lead with a 3-2 win over Boomerangs last week and can clear the air with another good showing against an Inner West unit that suffered a 4-5 round-eight loss to Enfield. The Warriors have won four premier league games on the trot over Magic (and six of the last seven meetings), including a 4-2 second-round success, and another victory would consolidate their premiership credentials. The two sides boast the league’s best defences.
Mountain Majik tackle Enfield Rovers at Hawkesbury Indoor Stadium on Saturday in a big match for both teams. Enfield moved into fifth spot three points behind Quake and Majik are hot on their heels to make this a critical three points. Rovers clipped Majik 4-3 in their round-two encounter and will hope their experience holds out against a Mountain side that’s impressed in their premier league debut. Majik are second on the Club Championship table and have produced some solid open men’s results to indicate this will be no pushover for a red-hot Enfield.
It’s contrasting fortunes as Boomerangs welcome Mascot Vipers to Canberra’s mpowerdome on Saturday. Second-placed Boomerangs lost the competition lead to Dural last week and face bogey side Mascot who are seven points off the top-four with six games to go. Successive 5-5 draws and Vipers registering a 6-5 victory in the game before that shows scoring isn’t a problem whenever these sides meet and it’s only how Mascot’s defence holds up that will be the biggest factor – they’ve conceded a league-low 40 goals in eight fixtures.
Last-placed Phoenix Futsal Club cast their final dice against Campbelltown Quake at Ryde Sports & Community Centre on Saturday. Eight points off the playoff pace and Phoenix have nothing to lose ahead of this weekend’s clash with a Campbelltown side closing in on the competition triumvirate. Phoenix stunned Quake 4-2 in round two and (what may shock some) can boast the best close-call reputation of any of the 10 post-2010 premier league teams winning five of seven games decided by a goal. But they need to get going on the offensive end having bumbled their way to a league-worst 17 goals in eight summer outings.
