FNSW Female Football Week a Success

Football NSW’s inaugural Female Football Week was branded a huge success as the promotion of women’s football took centre stage across NSW.

The week long initiative shown by Football NSW saw various programs from Coaching Courses and School programs to Referees courses and football clinics that were well received by the hundreds of participants who threw their support behind Female Football Week.

The below were activations that took place during Female Football Week:

Sunday 4th May – Game Day Activation

Female Football week kicked off at all the home fixtures throughout the WPL1, WPL2 and WSL in what were great conditions for the round ball game.

Football NSW’s Renee Rollason was appreciative of the support shown during the course of the day.

“We would like to thank everyone who showed there support throughout the day across all venues for females involved with our beautiful sport.”

There were giveaways that took place also as various participants took home a $50 gift voucher thanks to Rebel Sports.

Monday 5th May  – Institute vs Mothers Gala Day

Valentine Sports Park, the home of Football NSW saw a fascinating match take shape as the Football NSW Institute took on their mothers in what were great scenes at Glenwood.

Football NSW’s Renee Rollason and Nadine Sheils organised to have the mothers of the institute girls involved in a mini world cup against their kids.

In what were memorable scenes, both mothers and daughters enjoyed the evening with many finding a new appreciated for the game.

Tuesday 6th May – AASC Hill top Road Ps

Renee Rollason and Van Marinos attended Hilltop Road Public School Merrylands to promote female football week.

Over 120 girls participated in a skills activity and small sided football games where they received a size 1 mini ball for their efforts.

Rollason was delighted with how the day progressed as all participants enjoyed key learnings of our wonderful game.

“All the girls had a blast.

“It’s a great opportunity to get out to schools and promote such a great week as well as giving the girls the opportunity to play and enjoy the game.”

Wednesday 7th May  – James Erskine Ps

Renee Rollason along with Football NSW attended James Erskine Public School to promote female football week.

As many as 50 girls participated in several different activities that ranged from small sided games to 1 v 1 and skill based activities.

Seven News also made the trip, covering what was a great event for the sport.

Thursday 8th May – Galilee Catholic Primary School

Matildas and Western Sydney Wanderers female star player Kyah Simon attended Galilee Catholic Public School to promote Female Football Week.

Kyah had 25 girls participating in a MiniRoos World Cup amongst a number of other things.

“All the girls were very enthusiastic and excited for the event and it showed as they came out of it smiling and wanting to play more.

“Football was certainly the winner on the day,” Simon stated to Football NSW.

Friday 9th May – Ellyse Perry Challenge

The Ellyse Perry Challenge took shape at Blacktown International Sports Park as Renee Rollason alongside three Football NSW staff members attended in what was a fantastic day for the female game.

Overall, 140 girls participated in a day which saw Football and Cricket unite.

All participants received a show bag and 2 lucky winners each received a signed ball from Ellyse as well as a signed cricket bat.

Perry herself was delighted to have seen so many happy faces and was honoured to be the events namesake.

“It was such a fantastic day, I know I had a huge amount of fun and I hope the girls had just as much fun also,” Perry said.

“It was a great opportunity for the girls to play football and cricket all day while in the company of their friends enjoying the social part of sport too. I think for me certainly growing up this aspect played a huge role.

“To be able to provide an opportunity to young girls to come along to play sport as well as be healthy and active was great to see and certainly a huge thrill for me.

“It was a privilege to be involved in such an event and the initiative shown from both Football NSW and Cricket NSW was truly wonderful.”

Saturday 10th May – Part 2 of Skill Training Certificate and level 4 Referee course

Part 2 of the Skill Training Certificate kicked off at Valentine Sports Park with Sally Wolfison taking charge once again.

All 13 participants returned from Part 1 of their training to complete the course.

Rollason was happy with the key learnings that were evident throughout the course.

“There were many ideas that were given to all coaches which I am sure will further upskill them all for their respective clubs.

“The course was very well received by the 13 that attended the event.”

Along with the Skill Training Certificate, the level 4 refereeing course that was presented by Football NSW’s Kelly Jones and John Bowdler.

All ten participants attended the course that has since given them more information which will prove vital towards their local branches.
