Womens State League Round 15 Preview
With all to play for, round 15 of the Womens State League competition promises to be the biggest weekend of football yet.
APIA Leichhardt Tigers v Gladesville Ravens – Lambert Park 1pm
Glenn Errington will be hoping his side can record their third victory of the season when they face fifth placed Gladesville Ravens at the newly redeveloped Lambert Park.
The Ravens will need to keep star Tigers player Madeleine Bollard quiet as she proved to be the difference in APIA’s 3-0 victory over the Parramatta Lady Hawks last weekend.
Gladesville, who secured a point against the high flying Mt Druitt Town Rangers will be looking at this match as a must win – reason being that the club want to apply some pressure on the top half of the ladder so things are heating up for the club coached by Johnny Casni and Claude De Francesco.
All in all, a great clash awaits as this should be a big match with a lot at stake for both clubs.
Nepean FC v Mt Druitt Town Rangers – Cook Park 3pm
Third placed Nepean FC will tackle second placed Mt Druitt Town Rangers in the Match of the Round at Cook Park on Sunday.
With only a point separating the two teams, this game could have a huge bearing on the make-up of the Premiership ladder after Sunday.
Nepean FC recorded an emphatic 4-0 victory over the Southern Districts Emeralds last weekend so team morale is high under the watchful eye of Allan Tasses.
The Rangers meanwhile were put to the test as they drew 1-1 against the Gladesville Ravens last weekend. Brooke Conroy was the team hero scoring against the Ravens and she would love nothing more than to record a win for Taryn Rockall’s squad.
Bankstown City FC v Southern Districts Emeralds – Jensen Park 3pm
Current Women’s State League leaders Bankstown City FC will face the sixth placed Southern Districts Emeralds at their spiritual ground, Jensen Park on Sunday.
Todd Gagan’s ladies have been in fine form this year having notched up 10 wins from 14 matches but did suffer only its second loss of the year at the hands of St George FC in what was a thrilling match that saw 9 goals fly through St George Stadium.
A wounded Bankstown City FC will be dangerous and the likes of Tania Baban, Melissah Parlato and the goal scoring exploits of Samantha Muscat will be on show.
Emeralds coach Ronald Richter understands that his team need to be at their very best if they have any chance of scuppering Bankstown City FC’s Premiership glory but will need to pick up their performance after their 4-0 loss to Nepean FC last weekend.
St George FC v Parramatta Lady Hawks – St George Stadium 3pm
St George FC will be brimming with joy after their massive scalp defeating league leaders Bankstown City FC in what was a goal fest last Sunday.
Currently sitting fourth on the ladder, Carlo Tini’s squad will be focused as they take on the Parramatta Lady Hawks who sit bottom of the ladder having recorded only one victory for the season.
Lauren Gardner and Melissa Toumbelekis were lethal in last weekend’s thrilling victory and Tini will look towards them along with the other squad members to continue the club’s fight for finals football.
Statistics state that this should be a Saints victory however you cannot count out the Lady Hawks as coach Donald Gomez is expecting a better performance from his squad after a 3-0 loss to APIA Leichhardt Tigers.
