Futsal Premier/State League Round 4 Review

It was mayhem in round four premier league action as Enfield downed Mascot 7-2, Dural edged Mountain Majik 2-1, Campbelltown beat Phoenix 4-3, and Inner West lost 6-3 with UTS Northside.

Enfield Rovers kept their noses in front of Dural at the top of the ladder with a finely crafted 7-2 victory against Mascot Vipers at Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre.

It was a very good stoush but a clinical first half saw Enfield lead 5-2 at the break – Clayton Musumeci claiming a hat-trick and Nino Fragassi two goals – and Rovers held their mettle to register an important win ahead of their top-of-the-table clash with Warriors.

Dural Warriors had to sweat every inch of the way in a tight 2-1 win over Mountain Majik at Dural Sport & Leisure Centre.

Warriors recorded two easy wins over Majik last summer but were made to bump and grind their way to a slender win by a rock-hard Mountain and send off club stalwart Toby Seeto a deserved winner in his farewell match, Brendan Hoyer and Seeto’s longstanding partner-in-crime Greg Giovenali scoring the decisive goals.

Campbelltown Quake fought tooth and nail to overcome a heroic Phoenix Futsal Club 4-3 at Minto Indoor Sports Centre and remain one point behind the competition leaders.

It was goal-for-goal as Campbelltown led 3-2 at the interval and maximum points were never a sure thing until the fulltime whistle blew with Quake still in front by the smallest of margins, leaving Phoenix win-less in 16 league runs and equal with Sydney City’s low-mark from three summers ago.

They also equaled City’s unenviable record of eight away games without a win and one short of the Eagles’ 11 straight league losses.

What a night to remember as UTS Northside collected a memorable victory with a 6-3 victory against the Inner West Magic at Valentine Sports Park.

On the scoring front that man Shervin Adeli continued his jawdropping goalscoring run. A league leading eight this summer makes it 14 goals in his past six matches for Enfield (29 in his last 15!), and hot on his heels this season is team-mate Clayton Musumeci (6). Quake duo Mark Symington and Danny Martinez have five goals each.

Wolves prowl State League

State league round four results saw Western Wolves soundly defeat Sydney City 7-1, Botany Bay edge South Coast 3-2, Raiders break Boomerangs 4-2, Eastern Suburbs down Sutherland 5-3, West City demolish International 13-0, Parramatta pummeled Sydney Futsal Club 8-3, while Mount Druitt Town Rangers had the bye.

Unbeaten Wolves (10 points) lead the way after round four, a point in front of Eagles. Crusaders, Raiders and Pirates are joint third (seven points) with Taipans, Boomerangs (6) and undefeated Hakoah (5) chasing.

Western Wolves brought down Sydney City Eagles 7-1 in a one-sided top-of-the-table clash at Dural Sport & Leisure Centre. Wolves led 4-0 at the interval and the dominant result catapulted Western over City to the top of the charts.

Botany Bay Pirates defeated South Coast Taipans 3-2 in a brilliant battle at Hurstville Aquatic Centre. The two evenly-matched sides went toe-to-toe and a scoreless opening period opened up into a tit-for-tat second half with David Stojic and Jack Taseki Taipans strikes cancelled out by a Luiz Lobo brace and Gerson Oliveira broadside for Pirates.

Raiders overcame a two-goal halftime deficit to rally and beat Boomerangs 4-2 on their own turf at Canberra’s mpowerdome, the Ljuboja brothers leading the way with a goal apiece and Chris Godoy Bascur and Adam Savetta adding their names to a dramatic Raiders fightback. Jason O’Dwyer and Daniel Bennett scored the home side’s first half goals.

Eastern Suburbs Hakoah rallied from a goal down to defeat Sutherland Shire 5-3 at All Sorts Indoor Sports Centre, Robert Ezekiel and Jarrod Basger picked up a double each as Hakoah turned a 2-1 halftime deficit into a stirring two-goal win.

Parramatta Pumas fought hard to beat Sydney Futsal Club 8-3 at All Sorts Indoor Sports Centre, Tom Louw scoring four goals, while West City Crusaders dished out a 13-0 Futsal lesson to International Football School Futsal at Peninsula Leisure Centre, Lucas Rossi collecting a remarkable six goals.

South Coast’s David Stojic is the man with the golden boot notching up seven goals in three Taipans matches so far, one more than West City’s Lucas Rossi (who got them all on the weekend) and Sydney Futsal Club duo Scott Tonkin and Giacomo Di Mento.
