Southern Branch FA looking to improving Coaching Structures

Southern Branch Football Association will improve their coaching structures in aim of developing the best young football stars in 2015 and beyond.

Several FFA Youth C-License coaching courses are to be run this year for people interested in becoming coaches within the branch resulting in new and current players receiving the best tuition on the park.

Southern Branch coach and development manager Matt Shepherd said the plan was to increase coach education all the while improving players skill levels.

“A more educated football community will help kids in the long run,” Shepherd said.

“In the past there has been a problem where players would leave the game because of a lack of education.

“Now we are implementing these coaching courses in March, April and May to further educate our coaches which in turn will flow through to the players.”

Southern Branch includes Eurobadalla, Far South Coast, Highlands, Shoalhaven and Southern Tableland Associations with more than 7000 registered players to 40 clubs.

Building skills at a local level will have players in a great stead to work their way up the Southern Branch pathway to representative football.

“We have the skills acquisition program for the younger players as well as regional youth league,” Shepherd said.

“Then we have Southern Branch FC who competes in the state league for men and National Premier League Two for women.

“Overall there are many options for kids and adults to play football in our region.

“Football is a relatively low cost sport in terms of the amount you have to pay for gear so it is a great idea to join a club, learn the sport and you never know where you could end up.”
