Gladesville Hornsby Association pumped for 2015
Football is the perfect sport for kids to have fun and learn life skills, those were the words given out by Gladesville Hornsby Football Association general manager Kay Iredale.
As the football season approaches the association is inviting youngsters to join their successful competitions in north western Sydney.
Iredale believes joining a football team has several positive.
“Football is the sort of sport that is aimed at being fun for kids,” she said.
“For the young kids it is non-competitive that way they have fun and learn the skills of the game.
“It also has great health benefits for kids and as they get older it really does keep some kids off the streets.
“Even for the older guys and girls football is great as you get a chance to hang out with your mates while playing and keeping healthy.”
The association had over 14,000 registered players across 34 clubs ranging from under-6s through to over-45 men as well as several female competitions.
Last season the association was successful in seeing five of their teams reach the Champion of Champions grand finals.
Despite the high numbers the association is always looking for more volunteers as well and believe it is a good way make a positive football experience for all.
“I think it is important for kids to see their parents helping to be honest,” Iredale said.
“It is a bonus for kids to see their parents in the canteen, managing or coaching as it become a family thing.
“It adds to the entire experience and really shows that we are all a big football family at the end.”
