Leichhardt Saints give Bali orphanage the gift of football

The power of football is a wonderful thing. In countries of low socioeconomic populations, it can offer small moments of joy, particularly for children.
Leichhardt Saints FC understand what the beautiful game brings to communities all over the world and have lent a helping hand to one such community.
The club sent a donation of jerseys, balls and essentials such as food & toiletries via Football NSW to the Jodie O’Shea Orphanage in Bali, Indonesia.
Australian Jodie O Shea tragically passed away as a result of the Bali bombings in 2002 with the orphanage being run in loving memory of her. It currently cares for 88 children of all ages, the youngest of which is one year old Lyla.
Football NSW Development Officer, Robert Fitzgerald, presented the children with their new gear and essentials, and was touched by how well received the donations were.
“The children loved the jerseys, immediately putting them on and breaking out into a football match.
“Whilst obviously the winner didn’t matter, the teams chopped and changed seemingly every minute.
The importance of the orphanage and the positive experience of a game of football was evident, Fitzgerald believes.
“It is wonderful that the children are embracing life and sport, and have the freedom to simply be children”.
For Fitzgerald, the Jodie O’Shea Orphanage motto "may we continue to bring light into the lives of our children" reverberated in great depths.
“The smiles on the kids’ faces says it all”.
Football truly is the world game.
