It was standing room only as more than 600 Futsal followers crammed into Valentine Sports Park to witness a spectacular day of premier league grand finals.

Campbelltown Quake took out three titles (Youth Men, 16 Boys & 12 Boys), two each went to Enfield Rovers (Open Women & 14 Boys) and Inner West Magic (15 Girls & 13 Girls), Dural Warriors lifted the Open Men trophy for a fourth straight time, and Mascot Vipers claimed the 17 Girls Championship. Mountain Majik beat South Coast Taipans in an entertaining AWD Futsal League Grand Final.
Open Men – Dural conquer Inner West
Dural Warriors clawed tooth and nail over Inner West Magic in an Open Men championship classic, winning a dramatic penalty shootout after equalising in the last two minutes of regular time.
A late Chris Polkinghorne strike cancelled out Chris Zeballos opener for Magic, stand-in Dural coach Blake Rosier opting to bring on veteran goalkeeper Alastair Bruce for the shootout with emphatic results, Bruce saving twice to steal the show.
The first real chance fell to Miles Downie who clipped the upright from a corner but it wasn’t long before Inner West’s Michael Cimino received a red card in the fourth minute.
The game was brimming with intensity and Zeballos almost sent the Magic fans into raptures when he went close to providing an opener, and it was Dural’s turn to lift the roof after Polkinghorne’s sharp strike was neatly parried away by Inner West keeper Roberto Maiorana.
The Warriors were under the pump as Magic set up camp in their half for lengthy patches but it was a full court counter that broke Dural’s defensive line with Isaac Wadick touching perfectly for Zeballos to run onto it and finish clinically under Warriors keeper Nicolas Starr for a 1-0 Inner West advantage.
Inner West almost had the last laugh as a blistering Downie freekick forced an incredible save out of Starr – Magic clinging to their 1-0 lead at the changeover.
Inner West’s Marino Musumeci fired the first salvo of the second half, hitting the side netting, but Dural eventually asserted itself with a long run of possession without many shots – the only ones with menace dealt with superbly by Magic substitute keeper Angelo Konstantinou.
Bruno Pivato had a good chance for Dural but his shot from an acute angle clattered into the post and out for a goalkick, with Inner West relying on the counter to create some opportunities up front.
Brandon Vella also tried his luck with a good drive flickering across goal as Dural continued to pile on the pressure, but Magic’s Alexander Doyle ruffled the netting at the other end to keep the Premiers on their toes.
The Warriors went to a fifth-man press with eight minutes left and it almost paid off straight away with Konstantinou and Cristian Ciampa scrambling hard to keep a Polkinghorne rocket out of goal, and Konstantinou was doubly brilliant in an amazing reflex save seconds later.
Konstantinou was proving the difference as he tipped clear Wade Giovenali’s shot from the top of the D but the shotstopper drifted too far out of goal as Polkinghorne slid one underneath him to draw the Warriors level with just three minutes remaining.
Starr finally saw some action as he belted away Doyle’s blast and fulltime blew with the match everywhere but decided.
Extra time was end-to-end as both sides searched for the winner, Konstantinou blocking Wade Giovenali and Starr keeping Musumeci‘s freekick out at the other end to send the nailbiting contest to a penalty shootout.
Dural opted to bring in a fresh Alastair Bruce for the spot-kick challenge and it proved a masterstroke as he stood tall to block both Downie and Doyle and leave it for fellow glovesman Nicolas Starr to slot home the winning penalty.
The result, Dural’s eighth straight win, also popped an 11-game unbeaten Inner West run, but the fact Warriors weren’t able to better Magic in 140 minutes of Futsal over summer speaks volumes for the even-ness between them, something Greg Giovenali raised post-game.
“It really shows the level of competition between the Clubs that the Grand Final would go to penalties,” he said. “And this is up there with all the other titles we’ve won.”
“The opposition coaches wrote us off before the finals because we were missing our two internationals, but we proved them wrong… and this is for Rob Varela. It proved all the training’s he’s done with us that we can win without him [on the sideline, and a lot of the credit should go to all the young guys who’ve come through for us all this season.
Inner West coach Steven Knight dipped his hat to his chargers. “Of course I’m proud of them. They showed today that they don’t fear anybody, and this is just six months into an 18-month exercise,” he said.
“Congratulations to Dural… although a win today would’ve been nice, a bigger victory for us would’ve been not drawing so many games during the season so that we could’ve really challenged for the Premiership – and that’s our goal for next year. We needed to be neater with our passing in the second half, but we gave ourselves every chance.”

Open Women – Rovers bite Warriors
Enfield claimed a stunning 5-1 victory over Dural in a high quality Open Women Grand Final, Rovers proving a real thorn in the Premiers’ side over summer.
Enfield keeper Tani Rosekelly was sharp in denying Dural’s Dominique Caridad in the opening exchanges, Brooke Cowie also providing some excellent defensive coverage for Rovers.
It was Rosekelly again in an excellent dive to parry away Dimitie Whiteman’s strike and Rosekelly’s follow up stop was even better as it unleashed Trudy Camilleri on the break who fired into the side netting.
Warriors keeper Sarah Easthope was impressive in a double save off Camilleri, but she couldn’t get up in time to prevent Jodie Bain from finishing off into an empty net and hand Enfield a 1-0 lead, and the same combination doubled the advantage with Camilleri finding Bain alone inside the D.
But Dural responded in seconds, Jessica Elliot blasting away from the right to beat Rosekelly and halve the deficit in an electric first 10 minutes.
Easthope showed her mettle to break down a number of Enfield raids and Caridad went close to equalising for Dural with a long-range bomb but Rovers held onto their 2-1 lead at oranges.
Enfield went close to extending their lead when Mia Conners chested down for Cowie to latch onto but the shot skewered just right of the post, while Dural’s Sarah Yatim was doing her best to lift her side but just couldn’t get her final touch right as a number of chances went begging.
They proved costly when Camilleri went coast-to-coast to finish off sweetly under Easthope and lay down a 3-1 Enfield position that only strengthened after Bain added another shortly after.
Rovers were on fire and a brilliant Renee Tomkins run down the right was completed with a scintillating pass across goal for Joanne Burgess to smash home and take Enfield out to 5-1.
It should’ve probably been more as Dural went to a fifth-man press with eight minutes still to play, but none of the Rovers could find the target from long range to eventually finish four-goal winners.
Enfield Rovers: Tani Rosekelly, Renee Tomkins, Nicole Jones, Fabiana Perfilio, Jodie Bain, Joanne Burgess, Brooke Cowie, Melissa Khoury, Trudy Camilleri, Marie Sim-Sing, Zoe Halpin, Mia Conners, coach Roy Cowie, manager Michelle Conners

Youth Men – Quake crumbles Magic
Campbelltown Quake had to pull out every stock to get past Inner West Magic 3-2 in extra time of a thrilling Youth Men Grand Final.
Although Magic looked slightly the more likely throughout an entertaining game, two late Campbelltown goals saw them over the line in a nervewracking finish.
A cagey opening was broken by a great sixth-minute goal from Campbelltown’s Edward Rinaldi but Inner West responded in a flash, Daniel Fornito finding an inch inside the D and weaving his way through traffic to pick his moment and fire into goal to tie it up at 1-1.
It was action aplenty after that with Magic climbing on top, Quake goalkeeper Conor Irwin forced into some split-second decisions and the Quake players all doing their bit in a defensive scramble that kept the score unchanged, and it was all Inner West as they closed out the half with scores level 1-1.
The atmosphere was electric as both sides probed for an opening in the second term, Matthew Lecce lining up Joel Iannacito across goal but his shot cannoned off the sticks to let Quake off the hook.
Fornito fed Lecce at the top of the D only for the junior to be denied by the woodwork again with the goal at his beckoning.
Inner West were letting Campbelltown off the hook and it almost proved costly as Domenic Badolato had to be on guard in goal for Magic to stop Rinaldi’s fine low drive and make sure the game headed to extra time to try and find a winner.
It took a moment of brilliance to give Campbelltown another whiff with Harrison Bagot touching ahead to Anson Gilligan who touched ahead of a running Shaun Irwin to poke past Badolato and put Quake 2-1 up.
Inner West tried some sweet movement of their own and Irwin pulled off a remarkable reflex save to parry Fornito’s attempt over the bar, and a crucial full-court throw from Irwin in the second period of extra time found its mark when it hit Gilligan on the chest and the big man pivoted and struck past Badolato to make it 3-1 Quake.
There was more drama to come when Fornito managed to find the target in a fifth-man press and sizzle one past Irwin to drag the score back to 3-2, but they couldn’t muster up another to leave Campbelltown victors.
Campbelltown Quake: Conor Irwin, Bradon Clissold, Connor Powers, Bradley Wright, Cameron Wright, Daniel Blachura, Shaun Irwin, Edward Rinaldi, Harrison Bagot, Trent Sierra, Jordan Winckle, Anson Gilligan, coaches Mark Symington & Daniel Martinez, manager Tony Irwin

AWD – Mountain overshadows Coast
Mountain Majik stunned Premiers South Coast Taipans 2-0 to take the Nova Employment AWD Futsal League Championship in a very entertaining contest.
The Coasters were unstoppable in an unbeaten summer that saw them score 81 goals in 10 matches, but they were felled twice in the finals by a tenacious Mountain Majik who added plenty of razzle-dazzle to their solid teamwork.
The Mountaineers almost stole an early lead when Connor Marsh sliced his shot into the side netting with only Taipans keeper Nathan Whalen to beat, and Majik glovesman James Hunt did well to drop and stop Patrick Mitchell’s low drive for South Coast.
It might’ve been advantage Majik had Whalen not been brave in confronting two Mountain rockets, and Marsh also looked the goods until Whalen stuck out his right leg to boot his goalbound strike clear.
Mitchell almost scored against the run of play with his shot beating Hunt but not the post, and the rebound came off the back of the keeper and was dribbling toward the line when Mitchell pounced on it to maintain a 0-0 halftime scoreline.
Mountain’s dominance finally paid off when Christopher Pyne picked out Jack Williams inside the D and Williams turned well and struck true for a 1-0 Majik lead.
The goal sparked Taipans into action and Hunt had to be good to block a strong Mitchell strike, and then tipped clear a long range bomb from Zachary Jones, and the Mountaineers then stamped their authority when Marsh picked out Ben Atkins across goal and Atkins powered it past Whalen for a 2-0 Majik buffer inside the final 10 minutes.
It might’ve been more had Whalen not put in an outstanding performance for the Coasters stopping several Mountain attacks, his team-mate Mitchell also doing a great job and he would’ve scored had there been one less coat of paint on the posts, but the fulltime whistle blew to jubilation in the Majik camp.
Mountain Majik: James Hunt, Christopher Pyne, Ben Atkins, Connor Marsh, Jack Williams, Granit Haliti, Taj Lynch, coaches William Gurney, Iam Menzies & Bill Nichols

Referees: Nicholas Backo, Guy Laurenceson, Salma Aly
17 Girls – Vipers strike Magic
Mascot Vipers picked up a 17 Girls Premiership-Championship double but they never had it easy against a spirited Inner West Magic, winning 1-0 against the team that stormed into the Grand Final from fourth spot.
Some desperate Inner West defence kept the game scoreless early on, Magic keeper Jessica Urquhart excellent in stopping a sharp Carla Trimboli chance for Mascot inside the D and then dropping well to deny a low Georgia Plessas drive.
Inner West almost scored against the run of play when Emily Kos cheekily lobbed ahead and Rhianna Pollicina’s deft touch had to be swept clear by Vipers keeper Chloe Avgoustou.
Magic can thank Urquhart’s presence for keeping them in the match as she parried and blocked plenty of Mascot attacks, and Pollicina almost put them ahead when her shot inside the D rebounded off the crossbar, and a minute later Plessas smashed one against the upright at the other end to ensure a 0-0 halftime stalemate.
Inner West only had themselves to blame for not grabbing the ascendancy when Avgoustou was caught out of position and had to  watch as Pollicina hit the post from the top of the D with the entire goalmouth to aim at.
Naomi Nguyen went close for Mascot shooting just wide of the Magic goal and Avgoustou was superb in pulling off two quick saves in succession to prevent Lauren Featherstone from opening the scoring for Inner West.
The Premiers finally found a way though after some terrific team movement opened it up for Gabrielle Peak to slink into the D and drive home with five minutes left to play.
Avgoustou provided the heroics from there on in with some fine saves keeping the 1-0 score unchanged to the final whistle.
Mascot Vipers: Hannah Charak, Gabrielle Peak, Georgia Plessas, Naomi Nguyen, Carla Trimboli, Crystal Overton, Tamara Soto, Lissa Mumbulla, Maxine Peak, Emma Garlick, Chloe Avgoustou, coaches Zvi Bendavid & Rob Hill, manager Nia Plessas

16 Boys – Campbelltown down Inner West
Campbelltown won an enthralling 16 Boys Grand Final against Inner West Magic, Quake keeper Jordan Winckle stopping two penalties in the shootout to hand his side an epic Premiership-Championship double.
It was 100 miles an hour from the get-go as Inner West pushed early, Jordan Pyne proving a real handful with Campbelltown custodian Jordan Winckle called into action on several occasions before being beaten by a beautiful Matthew Lecce strike from range as Magic led 1-0.
A vocal Inner West keeper Jonathan Temple was doing a great job marshaling his defence and dropped superbly to stop Anthony Haddad from equalising for Campbelltown, Winckle also doing his bit for Quake in breaking down a Pyne fast break.
The Campbelltown efforts paid off when Harrison Bagot sized up a freekick from 7m out and drilled it low and hard under Temple to level the scores at 1-1 just before the break.
Quake rumbled in ferocious second-half start before Inner West turned the tables with a fast break finished off well by Lecce to lift Magic ahead a second time.
Lecce almost improved Magic’s position but Winckle smothered his shot well, and within a minute the contest was back to square one when Marcus Bimbilovski smashed one home for Campbelltown from the edge of the D.
Hassan Jalloh had a great chance to return Inner West to the lead but his one-on-one fast break was snuffed out by an excellent Winckle stop, but the Quake keeper could do little to stop Jalloh once he pilfered the ball inside the D and fired home from right in front to make it 3-2 with a few minutes left on the clock.
A clever Campbelltown time-out paved the way for Bradon Clissold’s on-target rocket to tie it up and send the game to extra time, where Inner West let slip couple of clear chances inside the D.
That was enough to open it up for Quake, Bagot finding Anthony Khoury on his own and a well-directed missile hit the back of the net to put the premiers in front a first time.
Jalloh was kicking himself after beating Winckle on the break only to fire his shot into the post, but he more than made up for it seconds later when he touched Mortaza Safdari’s power-cross into the Campbelltown net to level the game at 4-apiece – and the Championship would be decided from the penalty spot.
After Pyne and Bagot swapped successful strikes Winckle stood tall to deny the Safdari brothers Mortaza and then Ahmad in succession and claim the Championship for Quake.

15 Girls – Magic defeat Warriors
A late Eliza Ammendolia goal lifted Inner West to a nervy 1-0 victory over 15 Girls Premiers Dural Warriors, Magic storming home from third place to take the Championship.
The match began at a blistering pace with end-to-end action testing Dural keeper Mallory Basset and her Inner West counterpart Sophie Magus, who was superb in kicking clear a sharp Dural chance inside the D after Stephanie Cortes was left unmarked close to goal.
It was just about the best chance of the half as both defences proved impregnable and neither Basset nor Magus could be beaten in a scoreless opening period.
The tempo was upped in the second half and an exhausting affair finally started opening up some cracks as turnovers crept into the contest, Magic’s Eliza Ammendolia breaking clear for a one-on-one chance that was touched clear by Basset and Dimity Antonis firing into the Warriors side netting seconds later.
It was a tense game and Magus showed tremendous courage to deny Cortes on the left as Dural sought to stamp their authority on the game, but it was jubilation for Inner West at the other end as Ammendolia snuck free to bury a sharp last-minute chance inside the D to steer Magic to a terrific 1-0 victory.
Dural Warriors: Olivia Robinson, Karly Vouros, Bianca Dobson, Tayla Chaplin, Stephanie Cortes, Maddison Gardoni, Mallory Basset, Brianna Clarke, Natalie Roubickova, Sara Comert, Emily Bastow, Bethany Gordon, coach Lyndon Wilkin

14 Boys – Enfield hold off Inner West
Enfield and Inner West put on a real show in the 14 Boys Championship decider, Rovers hanging on to win 6-3 in a terrific contest between the competition’s top-two sides.
A spritely start from both sides saw Inner West glovesman Bailey Togiavulu save a blistering Kostandinos Grozos shot for Enfield, but only as far as Marco Tilio, who hit the post on his first attempt but nudged into an open net to give Rovers an early advantage.
The Enfield joy lasted seconds as a powerful Matthew Barkho provided a solid Magic equaliser, but Rovers were back in front within the blink of an eye after Liam Ivancic drove low to make the score 2-1 after just five minutes of play.
Inner West stuck with the Premiers when wily George Antonis kept his poise to lob Enfield keeper Daniel Di Stefano and restore parity on the scoreline, but Enfield went ahead a third time after Tilio finished off well from the edge of the D, Inner West unlucky not to draw level from the restart with Barkho cannoning his shot off the upright.
There was plenty of action to close out the half but no further goals were scored as Rovers led 3-2 at the interval.

Substitute Magic keeper Kyle Willis pulled off a great save early in the second stanza, but midway through the term the ball broke nicely for Tilio to finish off with a strong right-footer and double Enfield’s lead.
Inner West never gave up and Di Stefano had to be sharp several times to keep the Rovers cushion intact, but Tilio was proving a real nuisance for the Magic defence and set up Peter Grozos for Enfield’s fifth goal, only for Brodie Clarkson to immediately pull one goal back for Inner West to make it 5-3 with five minutes to go.
A brave Willis was crucial in ensuring Enfield didn’t skip clear more, but Tilio was irrepressible in netting his fourth goal to give Rovers an unassailable 6-3 position at fulltime.

13 Girls – Magic take out Warriors
Inner West Magic claimed the 13 Girls Championship with a hardfought 2-0 win over Premiers Dural Warriors in an exciting game decided by goals to Olivia Carolan and Georgia Usherwood.
The match started with an arm-wrestle as both sides tested the waters before a dangerous Amy Sayer cross found Magic team-mate Carolan alone at the far post and she made no mistake to push Inner West in front after eight minutes.
Warriors keeper Mary Vouros was excellent in denying Sayer a second Magic goal and moments later sucked in a Karlee Hildebrandt close-range blast, but Inner West finally found their second breakthrough with Usherwood driving low under Vouros to make it 2-0 just before halftime.
Dural came out full of pep in the second term and Magic keeper Tiana Mihaljek blocked well on her line to maintain her team’s two-goal buffer.
Inner West were under the pump but Vouros still had to be on her guard to save well three times within minutes and keep Warriors in the contest, but it was to be a Magic moment as they toppled the Premiers 2-0.
Dural Warriors: Mary Vouros, Isabella Said, Natalie Roubickova, Laura Montiel, Brooke Steinwede, Greta Kraszula, Sara Comert, Chelsea Wilkin, Emily Bastow, Coach Lyndon Wilkin

12 Boys – Quake rattle Rovers
The 12 Boys Grand Final was an absolute cracker with Campbelltown Quake defeating Enfield Rovers 1-0, Samuel Harb scoring the winning goal inside the opening two minutes before the evenly-matched sides battled out a beauty!
The game was minutes old when Harb found space at the top of the D, turned and struck well to open the scoring, with his team-mate Paul Mariani smothering well at the other end to keep Campbelltown in front.
Enfield keeper Carlos Barriga was just as busy, diving low to block one Quake shot and scrambling hard to deny the follow-up.
Midway through the term Patrick Yazbek played a delightful ball through to a sprinting Jeremy Dinh but his touch skipped under Barriga and agonisingly left of the upright, and the same combination came close nearing the half’s end, Yazbek lobbing ahead for Dinh to nudge over an advancing Barriga, the ball nestling into the side netting.
Halftime sounding with Harb’s goal the only difference.
The game opened up in the second period with a tireless Enfield target Rhys Osmond firing into the crossbar and Harb forcing Mariani into a neat save at the other end.
Harb could’ve done better minutes later when he latched onto a Mariani full court throw but found Barriga in form as the Rovers custodian dropped well to block the one-on-one attempt.
Barriga was very brave inside a frantic final five minutes to charge out and deny Jacob Tanevski in the open court, while Osmond continued to press in front of the Campbelltown goal, but the Enfield shotstopper touched the ball outside the D to pick up his second yellow card, Quake playing out the final seconds to win 1-0.
