The Sutherland Shire Football Association (SSFA) will launch the 2015 football season on Sunday 22nd March featuring the first round of the Sylvania BMW Amateur League 1 competition.
The day will feature five high quality games at Seymour Shaw Stadium as the best club teams in the Shire will compete for honours in arguably the most competitive grassroots football league in Australia.
The Sutherland Shire Football Association is the largest grassroots sporting association of any code in Australia with over 18,200 registered players this season.
Sutherland Shire Football Association’s Giulio Di Stefano was eagerly anticipating the start of what will be a huge football season.
“A huge welcome to all of our new players, and their families commencing their football experience with us.
“And of course, a hearty welcome back to all of our returning Committees, coaches, managers, supporters, players and volunteers.
“With a large increase in our participants, our Clubs face a monumental task to get our 1,500 odd teams on the park on Saturday 28th March.
“But one of the greatest reward on that day for all of us, will be watching all those new Under 6 boys and girls playing their first game of football.
“Maybe a future Socceroo or Matilda will debut on that day.”
In a year which saw Australia win the 2015 Asian Cup with a stunning 2-1 win over South Korea, and with the continued success of the A-League in Sydney, our grassroots football is a great and accessible spectacle for football followers throughout the Shire.
