Round 2 is upon us with newbies Nepean FC and Marconi Stallions facing off against each other and UNSW Lions hoping to make amends for last week’s loss when they face Inter Lions.

In the other two matches, Sutherland Shire and Northern Tigers will be looking for their first win of the season and Sydney Olympic will be hoping to continue their goal-scoring form against Southern Branch.

Nepean FC vs Marconi Stallions FC, 3pm Sunday 29 March at Cook Park

It’s new vs. new when promoted Nepean FC host relegated Marconi Stallions in Round 2. Nepean held their own in their first game of the season in the PS4 NPL NSW Womens 2 competition, drawing 2-2 with Sutherland Shire, but will be facing a different test against Marconi. Marconi picked up only 21 points in 24 games in the strong Womens 1 division but still boast the likes of Chloe Logarzo and Caitlin Jarvie – both with W-League experience. Marconi showed why they will be one of the favourites for the title last week, defeating Southern Branch 3-0 at home.

UNSW Lions vs Inter Lions, 3pm Sunday 29 March at David Phillips Field

UNSW Lions will be grateful Round 2 is just around the corner and will be hoping to quickly forget their poor start to the season. Taking on Sydney Olympic last week, UNSW conceded six goals as errors at the back proved costly. But despite the negatives, UNSW did have some positives and controlled the opening stages of the match before collapsing spectacularly. They will be hoping to maintain that level of control throughout the whole match against Inter Lions, who began their season with another game containing six goals – a 3-3 draw against Northern Tigers.

Sutherland Shire vs Northern Tigers, 3pm Sunday 29 March at Harrie Denning Centre

This is a clash between last season’s bottom two sides and is a potential opportunity for one side to post their first win of the season. Sutherland kicked off their new campaign with a 3-0 loss against a strong Marconi side but can look towards their record against Northern Tigers last season as motivation – beating them in all three encounters. Northern Tigers, conversely, will be hoping to improve on last week’s 3-3 draw with Inter Lions, showing that they will not be cannon fodder this season.

Southern Branch vs Sydney Olympic, 3pm Sunday 29 March at South Nowra Football Complex

These two sides’ form could not be more different as they prepare to face each other in at South Nowra Football Complex. Whereas Southern Branch fell 3-0 to relegated Marconi Stallions, Sydney Olympic soared, and scored, winning 6-0 against UNSW Lions. Both sides finished in the top four last season, Southern Branch finishing fourth and Sydney Olympic second, and ended with one win each and a draw in their three meetings.
