PS4 NPL NSW Women’s 2 Round 6 Preview

Recent wet weather has left the PS4 NPL NSW Womens 2 ladder uneven, with some sides playing five times, some four and, in the case of Sydney Olympic and Nepean FC, others just twice.

A full round is scheduled for Sunday where Olympic will host second placed Northern Tigers and Nepean will travel to South Nowra to take on Southern Branch.

In the other two games, Sutherland Shire will face UNSW Lions and leaders Marconi Stallions will look to maintain their 100 percent record against Inter Lions.

Sutherland Shire vs UNSW Lions, 3pm Sunday 3 May at Seymour Shaw

In last week’s preview, it was highlighted that a win for Sutherland Shire was just around the corner. Despite positives in holding leaders Marconi to only one goal and drawing with last season’s runners up Sydney Olympic, Sutherland had remained winless. That was until last week when they defeated Inter Lions 5-1. Youngster Rochelle Borromeo proved influential in that win and Sutherland will next face UNSW Lions who too have just one win on the board. That win came in Round 4 against Southern Branch but UNSW were unable to pick up some momentum after their Round 5 game against last placed Nepean FC was washed out due to the poor weather.

Marconi Stallions vs Inter Lions, 7:30pm Sunday 3 May at Lily Homes Stadium

Inter Lions’ hopes of moving closer to league leaders Marconi were dashed last week when they were outplayed and outscored by Sutherland at Concord Oval. In third spot, five points off first, Inter’s 5-1 loss is made more telling by the fact they now face Marconi. Despite having their Round 5 game against Sydney Olympic washed out, Marconi’s 100 percent record this season has seen them already develop a comfortable lead. A win here will even further solidify that.

Sydney Olympic vs Northern Tigers, 3pm Sunday 3 May at Peter Moore Park – WASHED OUT

It started so well for Sydney Olympic in Round 1 – a 6-0 win to start the season saw them confirm themselves as the main potential challengers for Marconi. However since then, Olympic has drawn twice and seen two home games washed out at Peter Moore Park. Despite that, Olympic are only three points behind second placed Northern Tigers, who they will host on Sunday. Northern Tigers are coming off a 3-3 draw and, despite their lofty place on the ladder, have conceded an average of three goals per game.

Southern Branch vs Nepean FC, 3pm Sunday 3 May at South Nowra Football Complex – WASHED OUT

Southern Branch will be hoping to find some consistency after a mixed start to the season. After forfeiting their first game against Marconi, Southern Branch have won once, lost once and drawn twice, both scoring and conceding ten goals. Three of those goals conceded and scored came in a 3-3 draw last week against Northern Tigers. Unlike Southern Branch, Nepean FC are still without a win, however this is mitigated by the fact they have had two games postponed. Breaking that hoodoo will help push Nepean off the bottom of the table.
