The PS4 NPL NSW Women’s 1 competition gets closer and closer every week. Only 6 points separate fourth to ninth on the ladder.

We had another barrage of goals scored with 24 balls hitting the back of the net over the weekend.

Sydney University 1-3 Macarthur Rams

A beautiful Sunday afternoon set the scene for the National Premier League’s Women’s 1 match of the round. Wilson Park was at its best meaning both teams would be able to play free flowing football.

The home side would have to do without player/coach Heather Garriock Amy Harrison, Rachel Soutar, Mel Caceres and Natasha Prior.

The Rams would continue their undefeated start to the season, picking up a 3-1 victory and cementing first place.

It was a tough start to the game with a midfield battle dominating the match, with both sides fighting hard for possession.

In the 15th minute it seemed that Georgia Yeoman-Dale had given the Rams the lead. Tenealle Hay stole the ball on the right and crossed in for Yeoman-Dale who on the stretch volleyed inches wide.

The home side were next to try their luck in the 22nd minute. A great ball by Liana Danaskos out right to  Stehpanie Ambrose saw her cross in a teasing ball into the box. Evelyn Chronis latched on to the cross but her first time effort flew over the bar.

Danaskos was a shinning light in the first 25 minutes for Uni, man marking Kylie Ledbrook well and playing out superbly.

Kate Hensman was everywhere for the Rams and her cut back found Yeoman-Dale who again shot just wide.

Rams keeper Jada Mathyssen-Whyman was quick off her line to thwart any danger when Ambrose seemed through on goal shortly after.

Yeoman-Dale was at it again in the 32nd minute, dribbling in from the left and curling a shot toward goal. The effort beat Trudy Burke but nipped the bar and went over.

The Rams and Yeoman-Dale had their goal only a minute before the break, ensuring they’d go into the sheds ahead. A quick counter by the away side and a well weighted ball from Hensman saw the pacey wing break through the defence and calmly slot the ball passed Burke.

In the 49th minute the home side had a chance to get back into the match from the penalty spot after a handball in the box. Captain and substitute Elizabeth Grey stepped up to take the spot kick. Her initial shot was saved by Mathyssen –Whyman but Grey was quick to respond, taping home the rebound with the Rams keeper doing her best to attempt to keep the effort out.

It was then Burke’s turn to pull off an amazing save against her former club after someone looked to poke the ball home in a scramble in the box.

Yeoman-Dale then had her second and the Rams back in front in the 55th minute, giving Burke no chance with her finish. The Rams go on top from this moment and didn’t look back.

Yeoman-Dale was causing the Uni defence all sorts of problems down the left flank and almost had the away side further in front when her cutback trickled along the six-yard box.

Burke made another fantastic save in the 70th minute to deny Yeoman-Dale her hat-trick, making her self big in the one on one situation and diving the right way.

Hensman had a golden opportunity only three minutes later but she completely miscued the ball, with the Uni defence quick to clear their lines.

Mathyssen-Whyman continued to show throughout the game why she is one of the most talented keepers not only in the state but also the nation with great decision making and goalkeeping.

Yeoman-Dale switched flanks and turned provider almost immediately. Great work down the right and a cut back toward the penalty spot found Hay who made no mistake with the finish, burying the ball in the bottom right corner for a 3-1 Rams lead with 12 minutes to go.

Burke continued with her saves as the game ticked on, this time saving from Chrystal Duggan in what seemed a certain goal.

Renee Rollason was integral for the away side in midfield as secured another three points.

North Shore Mariners 1-3 North West Sydney Koalas

At Northbridge Oval on Sunday afternoon in the late kick off the North shore Mariners welcomed the North West Sydney Koalas.

Having scored their first win since round one last week, the Koalas were in a positive mood.

They took a one-goal lead into the break and built on it in the second half, coming away with a 3-1 victory. It’s the Mariners second consecutive loss for the ex-league leaders who drop down to fourth place.

Amelia Vitek scored for the home side while the Koalas scorers were Emma Stewart, Helen Petinos and captain Hannah Beard.

Emerging Jets 2-3 Football NSW Institute

It was a battle of the youngsters as the Emerging Jets and Football NSW Institute met at Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility.

Some game it was up the coast as the Jets looked comfortable at the break, taking a two goal lead courtesy of goals from Kally Lewis.

Champions won’t lie down and like that the Institute came out firing in the second half. A brace to Ellie Carpenter and a goal to Demi Koulizakis saw them completely overturn the result and stop their poor run of form, winning 3-2.

Blacktown Spartans 0-3 Manly United

At Blacktown Football Park, two in form teams did battle as the Blacktown Spartans welcomed Manly United.

It was United that would come out on top here though and stop the Spartans great run of results. Goals to Louise Neville, Isabella Walker and Tiffany Paterson were enough for the North Sydney siders to score three points.

The win moves United back into second spot in the ladder while the Spartans stay in equal fourth, but fifth on goal difference.

Central Coast 3-5 Illawarra Stingrays

Pluim Park was the venue for another spectacle, this time between the Central Coast and the Illawarra Stingrays.

What a goal fest it was, something we’ve gotten used to when the Stingrays play. It was a determined performance from the Coast who were in search of their first win of the season.

It wouldn’t come on Sunday though as the Stingrays prevailed in an eight goal thriller, winning 5-3.

Adriana Jones has found her goal scoring boots for the Coast, picking up where she left off last week, scoring a brace while Indianna Asimus got the other. Jordan Baker showed the quality she has, scoring an incredible four goals with Lucy Nolan scoring the other.
