Parramatta FC punished by Sydney United 58
Sydney United 58 FC has secured its spot at the top of the PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s competition with a comprehensive 5-1 win against Parramatta FC at Sydney United Sports Centre on Sunday.
Three penalties in the first half virtually eliminated all hopes for Parramatta as Sydney United 58 FC cruised to victory on the back of goalscoring doubles to Chris Payne and Robbie Mileski as well as a strike to Panni Nikas.
The win stretched United 58 FC’s winning streak to six games.
Parramatta FC for off to a fast start and should have taken the lead in the sixth minute when a triple chance went begging.
A corner was headed onto the post and the rebound reached Gosue Sama who shot at goal only to find Peter Triantis blocking his way on the line.
The ball then went back to Sama who, in almost an instant replay of the first chance, once again shot at Triantis.
Sydney United 58 took the lead in the 9th minute when it received their first penalty of the afternoon.
Robert Mileski was brought down in the box by Daniel Gullo and Chris Payne from the spot put the ball past an outstretched Luke Turnbull who dived the correct way.
The home side doubled their lead in the 20th minute when Ibrahim Haydar brought Mileski down in the box again.
This time Panagiotis Nikas took the spot kick and sent goalkeeper Turnbull diving the wrong way.
In the 25th minute Sydney United 58 FC should have scored its third goal when a delicate cross from Yianni Fragogiannis reached Payne.
Payne’s shot rebounded off a defender and straight into the path of Nikas who, front point-blank range, fired just over the crossbar.
In the 28th minute Nicholas Stavroulakis lined up the goal from some distance but his wondrous cracking strike sailed over the crossbar by the faintest of margins.
However, the home fans didn’t have to wait too long for the ball to hit the back of the net again.
Mileski made it 3-0 in the 33rd minute when a Shin Yutaro cross from the right was nicely glided into the box by the home side’s striker.
In the 35th minute a dangerous free-kick from the left by Daniel Rezo was deviated onto the crossbar by Thomas Manos as the visitors attempted to gain one back on the home side.
Incredibly, United 58 FC received their third penalty in the 37th minute of the game when Joshua Symons brought Payne down in the box.
Payne himself stepped up to the mark and, in a replay of his first penalty, beat an outstretched Turnbull.
All three of Sydney United 58’s penalties finished in the same bottom corner of the net.
Just before the break Parramatta cut into United 58’s lead.
Marco Sama played the ball into the box for Rezo whose deflected effort fell to Ante Tomic who, against his former club, put the ball past Thomas Manos.
The opening salvo of the second half fell to Payne in the 50th minute when his close range shot forced Turnbull into a diving save.
A few minutes later Payne was back at it again and danced his way into the box but once again he was thwarted by Turnbull who blocked his shot.
In the 55th minute Sydney United 58 FC continued to pepper the opposition goal when a cross from the right by Fragogiannis was deviated by Turnbull but only as far as Payne who shot over the crossbar.
A short while later Mileski had a golden chance when the ball drifted across from the right and his powerful drive was just over the intended target. It was hard to fathom how the home side hadn’t scored their fifth goal.
Parramatta FC up the other end were desperately unlucky in the 57th minute when Aram Tayebi-Derezkala had his shot deviated away from goal by his own teammate Marco Sama.
In the 65th minute Payne played the ball across to Nikola Taneski and his drive from the right was well met by Turnbull.
A minute later in a superb counter-attacking move by Sydney United 58 FC should have produced a better result because Triantis cleared a long ball to Payne, who then found Taneski on the burst but his final powerful shot was just a millimetre over the crossbar.
Sydney United 58 FC finally did get their deserved fifth goal when an accurate cross from the right by Matthew Bilic was met by a stupendous volley from Milseki.
It was superb strike from the United 58 striker.
After the game Sydney United 58 FC’s coach Mark Rudan wasn’t getting too carried away with his side’s convincing win.
“The result was good but there are still things that we need to improve on,” he said.
“It could have been a completely different scoreline had we taken all our chances.
“It’s certainly a plus to have those opportunities but like I said a couple of weeks ago, the players are in a good headspace. They are in a certain zone and they are creating the culture and the environment. They understand their targets each and every week and so far it’s okay.”
Over in the Parramatta FC dressing room a clearly disappointed Franco Cosentino was offering very little.
“It’s disappointing on a number of levels,” he said.
“When things go against you it changes the game and we were forced to really go forward in the second half to really chase the game,” he said.
