NWS Koalas stage successful AIA Vitality MiniRoos Gala Day
PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Women’s side NWS Koalas in conjunction with the North West Sydney Womens Football Association ran a AIA Vitality MiniRoos Gala Day on Sunday 17th of April, 2016.
The event was held at ELS Hall Park as one of the initiatives to promote Female Football Week.
The Gala Day included 6-11 year old girls.
The club aimed to not only invite girls that were playing the game, but ones that were interested in seeing if they wanted to take up the sport in years to come.
Promotion of the event was sent to local schools around the Ryde area in what was a well recieved event that saw over 30 participants take part in the special day.
North West Sydney Womens Football Association General Manager Denise Robinson was delighted with how the day unfolded as well as the logistics behind putting on such an event.
“It was a fantastic day for everyone involved.
“The content of the day involved 6 different types of AIA Vitality MiniRoos matches which we set up on Field 1.
“The participants were split into groups by age, combining the 6, 7 and 8 year olds and the 9, 10 and 11’s.
“We managed to form several teams consisting of 4 players.
“We assigned players from the Koalas U15’s as coaches and they were overseen by the Head and Assistant coaches from the U15’s.
“The teams played against each other and each coach demonstrated a series of skills and exercises, which were copied by each participant. This seemed to work well and the younger players really enjoyed having Koalas players as their coaches.
“Before the First Grade Koalas game, 22 participants were provided with coloured bibs and were mascots for the Sydney Uni and Koalas players and walked onto the field and lined up with them.
“The participants sat together in the grand stand watching the game, until half time when they all played Small Sided Games on the main pitch as half time entertainment.
“They loved that part and were all very excited to play in front of an audience demonstrating the skills they had learnt during the day.”
