VSP to host double-header football event on Friday
The popularity of Football NSW’s Grassroots Football Fridays continues to grow, as Valentine Sports Park gears up to host the first double-header this Friday.
After the success of staging one men’s and or one women’s game each Friday at the Glenwood headquarters, this represents a new step forward in the strong connection between Football NSW and its grassroots associations.
In an unprecedented event, four local clubs will be playing their regular season games at Valentine Sport Park, with an All Age 1 women’s game and an All Age 3 men’s game set to be hosted on the same evening.
This presents a huge opportunity for grassroots football players to use the first-class facilities at the Home of Football for the first time.
Gladesville Ravens will host Sydney Uni Blue on Field 3 as part of the North West Sydney Women’s Football regular season.
Two teams from the Gladesville Hornsby Football Association, the Redbacks and Eastwood St Andrews, will be playing on Field 2.
Both games kick-off at 7.45.
Redbacks Club President Andrew Glanville says the All Age 3 men’s teams approached him when the opportunity was presented, and was more than happy to give it the green light.
“We’re right behind them.
“It certainly incentivizes playing football and for people to want to play.
“To be able to play on top quality pitches like Valentine Sports Park, it’s great.”
Having seen the state of the art facilities firsthand, Mr. Glanville believes the Redbacks side will be thoroughly impressed.
“I think it’s a great initiative.
“All the guys are excited about playing on a quality pitch. I’ve been down there a few times, there are some great facilities there and it looks very good.”
Mr Glanville says he’d encourage other age groups and divisions within his club to apply to play on Valenitne Sports Park’s new synthetic fields as well.
“It’s a credit to Football NSW too for opening them up, they’re not cheap grounds so it’s great that they’re doing it, opening up the whole facility there and opening it up to grassroots teams.”
