Grassroots football teams ‘privileged’ to be playing at VSP

Football NSW’s Grassroots Football Fridays initiative continues to entice local football sides to play on the state-of-the-art grounds of Valentine Sports Park.

And some sides are already returning to the ground for a second run after having a fantastic experience in their inaugural match.

Four women’s sides from the North West Sydney Women’s Football association will line-up in a double header at Valentine Sports Park on Friday night, with a 7.45pm kick-off.

The Flying Bats will clash with Sydney Uni White on Field 3, while Epping FC face Sydney Uni Blue on Field 2.

Flying Bats club delegate Amanda Green is looking forward to playing on the synthetic turf field.

"It’s a really exciting experience for the girls. We normally play on grass fields so its stepping up to another level."

After playing at Valentine Sports park earlier in the season, the Flying Bats thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity.

"Everyone’s really excited to get back. Some of our players were dubious prior to the first game but then after playing there, the feedback has been exceptionally positive from them.”

Sydney University representative Cameron Smit believes that such quality synthetic fields at VSP are normally out of reach for most grassroots teams.

"We understand it’s a very sought after venue so it would make sense that normally only the higher profile teams would play there. So even just one game there for the social clubs or the social teams is more than adequate.

"There’s no other synthetic fields in the women’s regular season competition so its a rare occasion for them."

Green says her team are pumped for their return to the park

"We’re really privileged to be able to play their again. Playing once on such good facilities is great but to get the opportunity twice makes us feel very very lucky. The standard of it and facilities, the ground are first class."
