As many as 27 School Teachers from across Sydney recently participated in the FFA Futsal Licence Coaching Course conducted by Football NSW Coach Education Manager Oscar Gonzalez.

The course, which is part of an ongoing teacher professional learning component, carriers with it full accreditation of five hours from the NSW Institute of Teachers. These hours are credited toward the teachers.

Teachers who are then accredited at Proficient Teacher level are required to maintain their accreditation while teaching in NSW.

Maintaining Proficient levels involves participating in high quality professional development situations that helps to continuously improve their teaching practice.

Professional learning is most effective when it addresses a teacher’s professional needs and supports student learning and wellbeing and linking it to the Standard Descriptors at Proficient Teacher of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.

Maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation means completing 100 hours of professional development in maintenance cycles of 5 years (if employed full-time).

Gonzalez was highly impressed with the calibre of coaching that was on display during the course of the day.

"This was one of the best groups of teachers that I have had the pleasure to work with.

“They were very engaged from the start and willing to contribute to their own and their colleagues development via self-reflection and peer feedback and teaching.

“Everyone was willing to run all day in the practical sessions and put themselves in uncomfortable positions in order to learn and change.

“We divided up the group into pros and rookies which enabled quality interaction and collaboration as well as provide many moments of fun and comic relief too.”

School Teacher and candidate Adriana Michael from the Georges River College Campus in Peakhurst was enthralled with what was put on show via the special Futsal course.

“The session was very informative and allowed me to look at drills and the game from a very different perspective.

“I am more than eager to see what other outdoor football courses are on offer, either school or non-school related as I would like to further update my license especially after experiencing the success of this course.”
