Community Inclusion Day at Gladesville Hornsby FA

The Warrah Society a Rudolf Steiner organisation providing services to adults and children with disabilities in Sydney’s North West is proud to announce that they will be participating in a ‘ Community Inclusion Day’ on Saturday 23 July 2016 in partnership with the Athletes With Disabilities (AWD) at Gladesville Hornsby Football Association (GHFA) at Christie Park in Ryde.

The Warrah Society, Athletes With Disabilities and the Gladsville Hornsby Football Association communities are all very excited about this event, which promises to be a day full of wonderful entertainment including an all-day Football Gala and features an Athletes With Disability Demonstration Match.

The Warrah Society, Chief Executive Officer, Georgina Michaelis is passionate about this partnership and benefits for all involved;

"We see great potential for this event partnership to benefit all of our organisations. It will create greater awareness of the Warrah Society and a focus on inclusion, and its benefits to the diversity of our broader community. Football is such a common interest; it provides a wonderful showcase for inclusion".

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) whose role it is to support a better life for hundreds and thousands of Australians with a disability, which has just recently rolled out the National Disability Insurance Scheme within the North Western suburbs of Sydney describes the importance of Community inclusion;

"The community as a whole benefits from inclusive arrangements, not just people with disability. In the broadest sense, inclusion can enhance Australia’s ‘social capital’ by engaging more people within the community and, through that, better reflecting the community’s diversity".

Community inclusion and social participation within events likes this one people with disability at the Warrah Society to break down stereo types through networking within our greater community.

The ‘Community Inclusion Day’ event will be held at Christie Park in Ryde and is hosted by the Gladesville Hornsby Football Association. GHFA’s representative team Spirit FC will be playing NPL2 rival Macarthur Rams on the day. Matches commence at 9am with the Under 13s and continue throughout the day with seven matches culminating in the First Grade match at 7pm. The Community Inclusion Day will feature an Athletes With Disabilities Demonstration Match which kicks off at 1:00 pm. The GHFA’s General Manager Mark Lockie explains the club’s decision to embrace community inclusion:

"We are fully supportive of the partnership between Warrah, GHFA, and AWD due to the benefits to the broader community when providing Inclusion opportunities and community access at Christie Park. This day highlights the inclusive nature of our sport, and will showcase what can be achieved by providing opportunities for all to participate".

The Warrah Society is a Rudolf Steiner organisation providing services to adults and children with disabilities in Sydney’s North West. Our main campus in Dural is set on 30 acres (12 ha) and is an environmental haven. Our services include Residential and Day Services for adults with intellectual and other disabilities who need support in their daily lives. Warrah Special School educates children ages 5-18 with disabilities. Warrah’s main campus includes Warrah Biodynamic Farm and Warrah Biodynamic Farm Shop.

The Opera House Kitchen Canteen will be delivering a Warrah Biodynamic Farm menu item that is made with farm fresh produce available for purchase on the day. The Warrah Biodynamic Farm is Sydney’s only certified biodynamic farm. In 1965 a biodynamic garden was established to provide practical life skills for young adults with disabilities. 50 years later the farm continues to meet its original purpose. The Warrah Biodynamic Farm grows a wide range of seasonal produce picked fresh daily. Our produce is available through the Warrah Biodynamic Farm Shop.

All members of the local community, Warrah Society, GHFA, AWD are invited to come and enjoy the Community Inclusion Day at Christie Park, Ryde on Saturday the 23rd of July. A gold coin donation will be collected upon entry on the day to help raise funds for the Warrah Society to help improve the lives of people with disability who use the Warrah Society services.
