PlayStation 4 NPL NSW Men’s 2 side Marconi Stallions might not be, historically speaking, a stranger to the national stage, but for the current team, the chance to play in Melbourne against Hume City is one no one is willing to pass up.

The last two seasons have not been the most glorious chapters in Marconi’s storied history, but Wednesday’s Westfield FFA Cup clash against Hume marks an opportunity for Marconi to get their name in lights for all the right reasons.

And to quote Marconi star Chris Nunes, the boys in blue are, “buzzing”.

“It’s a great opportunity for the club and the players,” he said.

“It’s our first time playing in the prestigious competition [at the national stage] and the younger boys are buzzing for it.

“We are all looking forward to it.”

But Wednesday will not be a walk in the park.

Hume City are one of the toughest outfits in the PS4 National Premier Leagues Victoria and occupy sixth-place in Victoria’s top tier.

They have a solid track record of knocking off New South Wales’ side in the FFA Cup, having knocked out Sydney Olympic last year.

“We don’t know a lot about them,” Nunes admitted.

“We’re just going off what they did last year and watching their highlights. They obviously have some experienced players who can do some damage, but we’re not worried about them.

“We are just focussed on us and going out there and give it our all.”

Marconi will have to be wary of Theo Markelis who tops Hume’s league scoring charts with seven goals, but Nunes says his side have some dangerous players as well, despite the club’s relegation last season.

“Marko Jesic, [Mirjan] Pavlovic and Sean Rooney give us plenty of experience but then there are some of our younger boys like Sam Perre and Brandon Vella too,” he said.

“I’m just excited to be a part of it. Watching it last year and not being a part of it was heart-wrenching, but everyone at the club is looking forward to this.
