Canosa signs with Bankstown United FC

Bankstown United Football Club (BUFC) is pleased to announce some key Senior Coaching appointments for 2017.

After a successful inaugural year in the Football NSW Men’s State League competition which saw the 1st grade team make the Final Series, the Club has appointed well renowned Coach Claudio Canosa as Head Coach for the 2017 season.

The club hopes with Claudio at the helm that 2017 will bring even more success and a potential promotion through to the next tier of the Football NSW competition structure. Claudio will also be acting as a mentor to further develop coaches in our youth ranks as well as the Coaches connected with the local association. Claudio has made it clear from the outset that he intends to bring a high level of professionalism to the Club and to develop the local Youth talent into first class players.

“I am really looking forward to working tirelessly with the Club to achieve their goals. I am keen on seeing the local talent in the Bankstown area and growing them into great footballers. The development of Youth is also a key component to a successful Club” said Canosa.

Bringing Claudio on board will assist both the Club and the Bankstown District Amateur Football Association (BDAFA) in being able to advance development pathways as a whole, with a wealth of knowledge and experience Claudio’s resume is simply impressive.

Claudio currently holds a FIFA Pro-licence (Highest Coaching Qualification in Football), having played more than 200 games in the National Soccer League before making the switch to coaching.

The newly appointed General Manager of BDAFA and BUFC, Shane Merry was excited about the prospects that Claudio brings to the Bankstown area.

“Claudio brings a wealth of knowledge and experience which BUFC and BDAFA are excited about and something you can’t put a price on. I’m looking forward to seeing this Club grow to new heights. Claudio has also told me that he wants to work closely with our local Coaches in particular to pass on his knowledge which is going to be fantastic.” he said.

Claudio was a technical analyst for the Olyroos at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, and has coached with Marconi, Wollongong and was also the National Coach of Fiji from 2010 to 2011. Claudio also won a National Premier League 2 (NPL2) title with Macarthur Rams and was most recently the head coach of the Gungahlin United FC in Canberra’s NPL, which included an appearance in the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32.

Further to Claudio announcement BUFC is proud to announce the appointment of local Platinum League legend Scott Belgre as the 2017 Under 18s coach.

Scott has been an asset to the club in 2016 alongside his assistant Rodney Mongan who had a very successful year in re-building the Under 14s squad. Scott has extensive knowledge of Under 18s Football with his work in the NSW Schools Championships and looks to build on a good year in 2016 for our Under 18s. What’s best about Scott and Rodney is they are born and bred Bankstown boys having grown up in the area they are now relishing the opportunity to work with the Under 18s to try and delivery further development the squad. Scott is currently working towards his FFA/AFC B-License and Rod is currently doing his FFA/AFC C-License.  
The Club would like to congratulation the three coaches and looks forward to working with them in what looks to be a very fruitful year for the club.
