Roselea Women’s FC is in the middle of a huge recruitment drive for female football players and last Sunday hosted a successful ‘Come Try Football’ event for interested Girls and Women wanting to take part in the world game.

Last Sunday’s session had over 30 interested female footballers across various age groups which included returning players and first time footballers, having a go at a range of football skills and drills.

The session had an extra buzz with ex- Westfield Matildas and Sydney FC player Servet Uzunlar contributing as a guest coach, smiling for photos and signing autographs.

Uzunlar, Football NSW’s Game Development Officer for Women and Girls, was highly impressed with the turnout the event received and congratulated Roselea FC for their professionalism.

“The signs were certainly there that the female game is going strong especially within that area with such a fantastic turnout on Sunday.

“Roselea FC did a great job in hosting this event which I am sure will benefit greatly from with more registrations within the female clubs at the club.”

An important element of the clinic is the club’s senior All Age women players giving their time as coaches for the day, guiding the players through different stations each focussing on a different football skill.

A series of small games rounded off the session.

The club is keen to raise the visibility of its senior female players and for them to become local mentors for the young girls as well as connecting the girls with strong Westfield Matildas and W-League role models.

Throughout February, the club is running free Girls and Women’s ‘Come Try Football’ sessions.

The third and final session will be held on Sunday 26 February, 4.30pm to 6.pm at Harold West Oval, Moseley Ave Carlingford.

Roselea FC is aiming to have at least one girls team in every age group within three seasons.

These Come & Try sessions, and ongoing active recruitment, are part of the strategy to achieve that.

Everyone is welcome for the final session this Sunday, 26 February.
