The 2017 Greek Orthodox National School Football Championships took centre stage at Football NSW’s ‘Home of Football’ on Wednesday 3rd of May at Valentine Sports Park as Bankstown’s St Euphemia College picked up its first ever Championship after an impressive display of football.

Australian Greek schools from across Australia which included St Johns College, All Saints Grammar, St Euphemia College, Oakleigh Grammar, St Spyridon College and St George College took part in the football component but other sports were also on display as Netball, Basketball, Table Tennis, Futsal and Volleyball were on show at venues across Sydney.

It was St Euphemia College that proved too strong for their rival schools as they topped the final standings with 16 points edging out St Spyridon with 11, Oakleigh Grammar and St George College with 10, All Saints Grammar with 9 and St Johns who finished up with no points.

Coached by Mr Vardouniotis, his squad were simply flawless as his 15 team members did the business in what were ideal playing football conditions across both artificial surfaces.

All Saints Grammar and football tournament organiser Tony Georgiakakis was delighted with how the day unfolded but was equally impressed with the venue.
“I’ve been lucky enough to be part of a European football tour with our school last year.
“We played at some of the biggest academies in Greece and Valentine Sports Park is clearly an elite complex that offers our players a top-class facility to play and train.

“Everyone loved it.”

Congratulations to St Euphemia College for picking up its first piece of football silverware with the squad as follows: Christopher Thomas, Vasos Kartambis, Aari Bouboulos, Anton Nicolopoulos, Andre Thomas, Strato Papazoglou, Tim Kilismanis, Nicholas Savelos, Alexander Houliaras, Layton Gavan, Andrew Konomos, Pavle Drca, Dean Zamagias, Photios Georgiou and Andreas Martis.
