Wolves too slick for Parramatta FC

Wollongong Wolves gave their finals aspirations a much needed boost with a 3-0 win over Parramatta FC in their PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s heritage round clash at WIN Stadium on Sunday.

It was one way traffic for the home side as star signing Nick Montgomery opened his account for the Wolves while Christopher Price and Patrick Antelmi also hit the back of the net

The visitors disappointed again in a performance not to be remembered on the road.

The victory kept finals football in range for Jacob Timpano’s Wollongong side with 10 weeks left to play.

The home side got off to a flyer with Montgomery scoring his first goal for the Wolves. The former Central Coast Mariners captain’s set piece effort gave Parramatta shot stopper Ryan Norval no chance of making a save.

Minutes later Parramatta had their chance to hit back when a shot from Daniel Rezo was saved before Gosue Sama was unable to score from the rebound.

The hosts looked dangerous on the counter with Josh Macdonald worrying the opposition defence, his shot hit the far post after the speedster got around his man.

Wollongong  had a great chance only moments later. Patrick Antelmi cut in from the right to unleash a left footed drive which didn’t trouble the opposition shot stopper.

Yuzo Tashiro followed suit and had a shot saved from a tight angle on the left side.

The visitors very nearly equalized before half time only to be denied by a desperate Wollongong defence. Darcy Madden produced a goal saving tackle right before the break.

The hosts started the second period well, Antelmi found Macdonald on the break only for the visitors defence to force a tight angle at which the youngster couldn’t convert.

The hosts were had more luck shortly after. Chris Price managed to get on the end of a Tashiro flick from the near post to give them some breathing space.

The game had swung considerably with the host now controlling the game with the wolves now smelling blood. Chances fell to Tashiro, Antelmi and Tanoski but they were unable to convert.

They were almost made to regret it as well with Gosue Sama missing a golden opportunity. The striker only had the keeper to beat and unfortunately lost his cool, dribbling his shot at the keeper.

Yuzo Tashiro looked the most threatening during the second half and almost found the net from a cheeky effort after creating some space outside the area.

The visitors one and only threat struck again as Sama forced a good save from Pasfield.

The game finished off with a good piece of work from Tashiro who unselfishly found Patrick Antelmi to round out the match.

Wolves coach Jacob Timpano felt his side took their foot off the gas in the second half

“Before the game we would of settled for 3-0 but if you look at our chances, we should’ve had more. Considering the changes we looked comfortable," he said.

Parramatta FC Assistant Mark Zecchin rued his side’s poor finishing and felt it could’ve been a very different final scoreline.

“We played well in that first half. The effort was there in the second but lacked execution," he said.
