Round 8 Preview – PS4 NPL 2 NSW Women’s
As the season heads downhill into the second part of the competition there are four more exciting match ups to savor including our Match of the Round between Gladesville Ravens and Central Coast Mariners.
Match of the Round: Gladesville Ravens vs Central Coast Mariners, Sunday 4th June, 3pm, Peel Park
The match of the round heads to Peel Park as the ninth placed Gladesville Ravens host the improving Central Coast Mariners in an important contest at the bottom of the ladder.
Central Coast Mariners picked up all three points in a clinical display against Southern Branch FC while Gladesville Ravens lost to Sydney Olympic 3-nil.
Mark Yule has started to get his side primed for the second half of the season as they are poised to challenge for the top four as they sit only a point out.
Candice Phelan has led the way for the Mariners with three goals closely followed by Georgia Davis and Gabrielle Branch chipping in with strikes for a strong attacking force.
Sunday proves another challenge for the Ravens as they currently prop up the NPL 2 NSW Women’s ladder but still stand within striking distance of the rest of the competition and coach Jose De Costa remains positive.
Bankstown City Lions vs Inter Lions SC, Sunday 4th June, 3pm, Jensen Park
Bankstown City Lions host Inter Lions as the two prides come together for a interesting contest Sunday afternoon at Jensen Park.
Both sides had disappointing results with Inter Lions salvaging a point late against Nepean FC while Bankstown City suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 loss against Sutherland Shire FA.
Joanna Martino continuing her scoring run was a highlight for the Lions as coach Troy Spink admitted his side deserved more from the contest.
Inter Lions showed some good spirit in forcing a draw against Nepean FC with a Sarah Mandile header and come into this contest on a high against an embattled Bankstown City Lions
Marconi Stallions vs Sutherland Shire FA, Sunday 4th June, 3pm, Marconi Stadium
Marconi look to continue their resurgence up the table against the leaders Sutherland Shire FA this Sunday afternoon.
The competition leaders rebounded from their loss with a barnstorming 3-2 victory over Bankstown City Lions.
The Stallions had a slow start to the season but clicked into gear recently with Joanna Burgess and Cedya Cambaz finding the net.
For Sutherland Shire FA they lead the competition in most categories and with their forwards headed by top scorer Jordan Baker will pose a substantial challenge for the Stallions.
Southern Branch FC vs Nepean FC, Sunday 4th June, 3pm, South Nowra Football Complex
A game between two teams at opposite ends of the table as the third placed Nepean FC head down to Nowra to face Southern Branch FC.
The two sides had contrasting results last week as Southern Branch failed to build on their momentum in a 3-nil loss while Nepean FC were held to a 1-1 draw.
It was a costly afternoon for Nepean FC as they accrued more injuries and missed their chance to go top of the table after the draw.
Southern Branch will be a tough ask with Paris Ford marshalling the side as they look to move up the ladder swiftly.
