Round 12 Preview – PS4 NPL 2 NSW Women’s
The PlayStation4 National Premier Leagues 2 NSW Women’s competition has started to condense as teams continue to chase a finals spot with seven weeks to go.
This weekend’s Match of the Round sees first placed Sydney Olympic FC take on fifth place Nepean FC.
Sutherland Shire FA vs Central Coast Mariners, Sunday July 2nd, 3pm, Harrie Denning Centre
For the first time in a long while Sutherland Shire FA don’t sit top of the PS4 NPL 2 NSW Women’s competition and welcome a rejuvenated Central Coast Mariners to Harrie Denning Centre.
Central Coast Mariners looked on course to three points before Tania Baban’s equaliser shared the points as Sutherland Shire FA had the weekend off but lost midweek to Sydney Olympic FC.
The Shire girls may have been usurped but they are still one of the better attacking team in PS4 NPL 2 NSW Women’s led by Danielle Wise and Jordan Baker which will keep Mariners keeper Jess Schlutz busy all afternoon.
Down the other end though – Mariners have quietly gone about their business and sit four points from fourth position and coach Mark Yule will have them ready for the challenge in the Shire.
Marconi Stallions vs Bankstown City Lions, Sunday July 2nd, 3pm, Marconi Stadium
The Stallions have moved into the top four and hope to continue their revival against Bankstown City Lions this weekend at home.
Marconi Stallions put together an impressive 4-nil victory over Nepean FC last time out while Bankstown City Lions battled well for a 1-1 draw.
Jess Beale has been on a tear for the Stallions in the last few weeks with four goals in three matches to kickstart the home sides season.
Bankstown City Lions hold onto third position by a single point and will rely on their attacking force in Joanna Martino, Doris Osman and Sunny Lucien in a highly anticipated match up.
Southern Branch FC vs Gladesville Ravens, Sunday 2nd July, 3pm, South Nowra Football Complex
Eighth takes on ninth as both teams fight for an outside chance of finals football down in Nowra on Sunday afternoon.
Gladesville Ravens got off their duck with a tense 3-2 victory over Inter Lions as Southern Branch FC couldn’t continue their recent run against Sydney Olympic FC.
The home side has been encouraged by their recent form and despite the blip last weekend will feel confident against the Ravens led by top scorer Georgia McDonnell.
For Jose De Costa and the Ravens – they head down the coast ready for a challenge as these two sides played out a nil-all draw last time out.
Match of the Round: Nepean FC vs Sydney Olympic FC, Sunday 2nd July, 4:30pm, Cook Park
Nepean FC has fallen out of the top four for the first time since the beginning of the season and welcome top of the tree Sydney Olympic to Cook Park for this week’s Match of the Round.
It was a tale of contrasts for the two sides last weekend as Sydney Olympic continued their roll 6-1 over Southern Branch FC while Nepean FC suffered a shock 4-nil loss to Marconi Stallions.
The Sydney Olympic FC attack has been irresistible in the last month or two – scoring twelve goals in their last four victories and George Beltsos’ ladies will be primed to take on the league’s best defense.
It’s been an unhappy few weeks for Nepean FC – after their fast start to the season they have recorded back to back losses and now sit in fifth position which won’t please their coach.
Last time these two met Nepean FC got the better with a 2-1 victory so it sets up the Match of the Round as an intriguing contest which will help shape the top four.
Inter Lions have the bye
