Sydney Olympic FC continue to pilot the PlayStation4 National Premier Leagues 2 NSW Women’s competition in a weekend that saw a majority of the top four pick up a victory. The Match of the Round saw us head to Cook Park for Nepean FC vs Sydney Olympic FC

Match of the Round: Nepean FC 0 defeated by Sydney Olympic 2

On a cool evening Sydney Olympic FC maintained their four point advantage at the summit of the PS4 NPL 2 NSW Women’s competition with a confident 2-nil victory over Nepean FC.

Goals in each half to Lily Chen and Danielle Calvi were enough to see off a determined Nepean FC side that has hit a rough patch after their fast start to the season.

Both teams took some time to warm into the contest on a cold evening at Cook Park. The best opening for Olympic came down the wing as Courtney Holmwood was released before a dangerous ball was cleared for a corner.

Olympic FC opened the scoring from some determined work around the box. The forwards worked hard to keep the ball that was clipped to Lily Chen was angled it home for 1-nil.

Following the goal – Nepean FC had a good spell of a pressure going into the break as they pushed before and forced a series of corners but Olympic FC keeper Grace Watson-Carr was able to deal with them all.

Jessica Elliott had a pair of free-kicks for Nepean FC which caused some concern for the Olympic defense but none of the Nepean FC attackers could get a touch.

Down the other end – an Olympic FC free-kick from Kalista Tsoupis was looped into the box for Madelaine Costanzo to fire home but she was denied point blank by Nepean FC Danielle Bartels.

Right after the break, Nepean FC had a chance on the counter to restore parity but for another good save from Watson-Carr as the frustration grew for the home side.

Again in the 72nd minute, Nepean FC worked it around the box but once again their final touch let them down as Kaitlin Harms blasted wide.

Olympic FC were ruthless and made Nepean FC pay for their missed chances. A delightful cross into the box found Danielle Calvi who finished smartly to make it 2-nil.

Harms had one final chance for Nepean as the clock ticked down but she couldn’t keep the shot down.

So Sydney Olympic FC record a valuable three points on the road to thwart the chasing pack for another week while Nepean FC have hit a wall in recent weeks.

Afterwards Olympic FC coach George Beltsos was happy to continue on winning games.

We’ve had three games in nine days and won them all. I am very proud of the girls and thought we deserved the three points, added Beltsos.

Unfortunately we picked up a few injuries but I am confident any of the girls who take the field can do a job for us.” He finished.

For the Nepean FC coach Allan Tasses he was pleased with the performance but added wasted chances really hurt them today.

I think the girls haven’t played to their best the last few weeks but definitely did today. Olympic took their chances and we didn’t sadly, said Tasses.

We have a good run home now, if we can play some football and get some victories we can definitely make it. He finished.
