The beautiful Far South Coast town of Merimbula provided the perfect backdrop as former Socceroos keeper Jim Fraser conducted a special course for Football coaches and goalkeepers as over 23 young shotstoppers participated in what was a great day for the world game.

The 23 young keepers which consisted of both boys and girls as well as coaches were put through their paces by Fraser who was impressed with the quality of custodians on show during Part 1 of the course.

Far South Coast Coach and Development Manager Ray Hale stated that this special course would prove fruitful for the participants who were looking forward towards fine tuning their skills underneath the sticks.

“We are pleased to bring goalkeeping learning to the Far South Coast as it is important for coaches and goalkeepers to feel confident in their approach to their respective matches and what better way to learn from one of the best in our game in Jim Fraser.

“The added advantage now is that coaches can then bring what they’ve learned into their club’s training with extra confidence knowing the right approach has been conducted.

“This has added a further string to our coaching and development bow to strengthen football on the Far South Coast.”

Part 2 of the course will be hosted later in the year once candidates and coaches have brought these techniques into their training sessions and have had the time to practice and reflect.

Hale further added that, “Another great outcome was Jim also commenced to mentor local and former elite keeper Dave Gilbert with the aim of strengthening the Goalkeeping coaching department on the Far South Coast.”

Football NSW Coach Education Manager Oscar Gonzalez stated that this course certainly brought more awareness and exposure to Football in the Far South Coast.

“The key objective of Football NSW is to assist with building capacity throughout the state where Associations are in a better position to conduct courses locally with the support of the state’s governing body of the sport.

“The cold took a reprieve and great weather turned up for the day, making these sessions enjoyable with a good relaxed learning atmosphere that was enjoyed by all.

“It was certainly a great productive day and this was all thanks to Jim Fraser.”
